I've been sitting with Resolve for almost a year and a half and this
still drives me nuts. It's even worse because I switch back and forth between Reaper for audio, where everything is customized exactly the way I like it. I'm primarily and audio guy (not video) and after fighting with trying to edit/mix audio in Resolve, I now render all of my audio out and move over to Reaper to fine tune it and mix. There is just no comparison IMO.
but in resolve in edit timeline on windows alt is (horizontal) zoom, ctrl is scroll, shift is vertical zoom. this seriously should be changed to be sticking to common practice or at least be configurable.
so here it needs one complete rotation: alt would be vertical zoom.
in other panels than edit its even different: this is truely insane.
Definitely configurable for me, since I have set up my own custom navigation shortcuts that I've been using in DAWs for many years.
Mousewheel = scroll horizontal
Shift+Mousewheel = scroll vertical
Then to zoom, simply add Ctrl:
Ctrl+Mousewheel = zoom horizontal
Ctrl+Shift+Mousewheel = zoom vertical
And Resolve doesn't have this feature, but still...
Ctrl+Shift+Alt+mousewheel = zoom waveform
I
love that setup and want to be able to use it in Resolve too.
of course i can work with ctrl and alt, but every 10 minutes i attempt to scroll by shift + wheel, resetting vertical zoom of all tracks
Yep, and the worst part is that Resolve isn't even consistent across pages, the viewer windows, nodes/timeline, etc. all behave differently between pages. Mousewheel zooms in the viewer in one page, but scrolls vertical in another because it uses Ctrl+mousewheel to zoom in instead. There is no "muscle memory" in Resolve, even if you only stick to Resolve and don't switch editors.
It's these kinds of seemingly small details that make a huge difference while using the program. Providing a nice mouse editor with a search function just like the Keyboard editor (which overall is very, very nice aside from a bug or two) allowing us to customize the mouse wheel, mouse buttons and modifiers then export and import our settings would go a long way to improving the feel of using Resolve.
