Text-Based Editing

PostFri Mar 10, 2023 8:12 pm

I'm echoing a post here, which was requested to go into Feature Requests:
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=176008

Premiere Pro has the editing by text feature in beta.

I've been looking around for this for a couple of years now.
I edit a lot of long interviews with often long-winded subjects.
My current workflow involves paying for automated transcription, printing it, marking it up with a highlighter, making notes, then finding those clips by timecode, labeling them with subtitles, and cutting narratives from those fragments.

While I'm open to process suggestions, Premiere's feature would be amazing. I'd pay extra for it to be able to edit by text. I could cut narratives much more quickly, and when a client says, "Do you remember when Joe said something about A.I?", I could easily accommodate their change request.

Please consider adding this. Thank you!

This is a very interesting feature.. Thinking about how AI can already summarize articles (how good yet is another discussion), it's kinda scary to think about how this can turn out eventually in editing software. I wonder how "human" things will stay.

I really hope this feature is implemented soon - makes me want to switch to Premiere!

Thank you Andy! I am excited to check out Lumberjack. But I can't see how it integrates with Resolve, not from a first pass on their site. I want to edit the story AND be able to color-grade raw footage later on.

I would like to add to my case: I passed up an ongoing gig recently because they wanted a ton of content from one recording. I assumed (my mistake) I'd have to play through the footage to find relevant clips.

But if I could have just read the transcript in the NLE - and maybe done a little cross-referencing of topics with search demand - I could have easily clipped the most on-trend content. (Not that we need more noise out there - that's another debate...)
