Track Selection Tool

PostFri May 26, 2023 5:28 pm

I'd like a tool (like the T tool in FCP7) that allows me to select everything on a single track, left or right or both.

With the Track Selector for that track highlighted and the playhead at the start use shortcut Y. To do the same with the playhead at the end of the track use shortcut Ctrl+Y.

As a former Final Cut Pro 7 editor, I won't be against you request, but I learn BlackMagicDesign method/shortcut and I'm fine with it

Y selects forward on one track.

Ctrl+Y backwards.

Add Alt to include all tracks.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

The "T" tool in FCP was considerably more useful than "y", because it's not dependent on header settings. Cursor position alone can determine the target track, instead of adjustment of track selectors and, in some cases, target tracks, for the entire timeline. And then back again when the operation is complete.

The same should apply for a paste operation -- a simple means of selecting a track with the cursor alone, rather than performing header changes, which have to be restored after the operation.

Thanks Charles, not sure how I missed that one, it's even in a pull down. (note CMD+Y for Mac)
