Until this request is solved, maybe our tool could help: https://github.com/octimot/StoryToolkitAI

For not, basic word search works out of the box, but we're planning to add the semantic search feature soon that will allow you to find not just words, but similar concepts in your text.

For eg.:
search word: "animal"
result: "The woman was riding a horse"

just yesterday i exported an srt to editingtools switch it to the edl markers, like frame io and imported it into Resolve to search as well as imported the srt as a subtitle.

if Resolve could allow subtiles to convert to clip markers as well as the other way around. it would allow the markers to basically be embedded in the clip so it never moves out of sync and you can search those very easilythrough all clips on project. also adding the search field in the caption column would be nice

Looks interesting
I couldn't make python work with Resolve, since v15, I tried everything, I know I'm missing something, but I just gave up with V17.

But i installed Whisper alone in a virtual environment just now, tested it, and it's exactly what I needed for the videos (or audio file) I don't have a transcript for!

The result with --medium for the model is very good!

Cool! Just give the tool a try and let me know how it works. We're doing almost daily updates since we use it in parallel for our pipeline.

We might add the ability to import existing transcripts / subtitles from other software to make use of the features and integration with Resolve...

My current solution is to export the subtitles to a temporary file, open it in a text editor, Notepad++ in my case, and search there.

It's better than nothing but so much more time intensive.

Please BM, a tiny search box on top of the list of Captions will do.

Hello

Could you integrate "Whisper" (AI & ML language recognition) in DVR ?

It will be great & awesome

In case someone is interested, we recently enabled the Advanced Search feature in our tool which allows you to search all your transcripts by meaning instead of just words with the help of AI.

It's free and available as a standalone app for Mac and Windows with CUDA GPUs:
https://github.com/octimot/StoryToolkit ... ses/latest

We're thinking to allow users to import their own subtitles/transcripts into the tool as soon as possible.

Free Automatic Translation from many languages to English on your local machine from Resolve
Advanced Search - allows you to search one or many transcripts semantically using AI
Export of transcripts to multiple formats, including SRT
Import subtitles directly into Resolve
Transcription queuing to line up transcription jobs
Sliced Transcriptions to re-transcribe only parts of the timeline/audio file
Transcript Timeline Navigation - click or UP/DOWN on transcript moves the playhead in Resolve

I was hoping to see this feature in DR 18.1, but even in 18.1.1 we have no way to search subtitles.
This small feature would really help speeding up my work.

Just to throw yet another plea on top of this stack:

+1

Please, blackmagic! Currently I'm doing auto transcripts of long interviews in premiere, using the search feature there to compile a cut and then importing that timeline into Resolve to do the final edit. This means I have to deal with sluggish Premiere for the majority of my documentary edits, and can't enjoy Resolve much at all. This feature seems such a simple one to implement! I'm not even asking for auto transcription, I don't mind using premiere to do that. As long as I can export the srt and then search within those subs in Resolve, I'll be an extremely happy bunny.

Please!

+1, the whole text panel in Premiere is much better than the implementation currently in resolve. Let's essentially implement that, including the ability to set in and out points from a transcription style window based on word. I can't imagine that this isn't on Blackmagic's radar with other AI improvements coming into resolve, auto transcription workflows and the ability to edit directly with text should be at the top of the list.

In the mean, time, please let us search subtitles so we can transcribe in Premiere or elsewhere and still work with it in resolve.

The update to 18.1.2 did not include this seemingly small feature.
Hoping for 18.2

Thank you Blackmagic

Hi. NIce program, but:
If we could only make markers from the transcript or srt file, this program would be helpful. Just jumping here and there, and then make the marker yourself, is a way, but not enough to use the progra. Especially when doing all this in Premiere easily. For now I make the srt file from transcribing in Premiere, sin ce your program takes looong time to trancribe :)

+1,000,000 (please) for 2023
We have a few hours of interviews transcribed (using Whisper AI) and have cut pasted the selected text above the video segments.
It would be sooooooo useful if we could search for the key words in the subtitles to bring us directly to the segment we want to cut and add to the main video.

Thanks for the consideration.

+1000. It's hard to believe that such a simple solution (search captions) hasn't been implemented, despite requests for this going back at least 3 years. BM seems focused on drawing users away from Premiere, but this omission is baffling because everyone uses subs nowadays. Are BM not hearing these requests? Is this hard to implement?

Would love the ability to see a transcript of the subtitles and search it. Love the way Premiere does it, but that's about the only thing I love about Premiere.
Would ALSO love a subtitle to text function.

DR 18.5 Beta 3 has more languages now, but I am working on a lot of projects in languages that might never be implemented in Resolve.
I transcribe subtitles locally with "Whisper" or online with "subtitlewhisper.com". Both have high accuracy.

So despite the wonderful new functionality in Resolve, the ability to text-search any given subtitle track is still VERY much needed.

Shouldn’t you able now in v18.5 to automatic subtitle anything and search for words?
Get your timeline and make a compound clip, “subtitle” it and search for what you need…

Should work in principal, right?

Theres no search function for subtitles, Walter, thats the problem ... you can search a transcript but you can't search subtitles, and the two are separate functions. All new, all singing, all dancing AI shenanigans aside, whats needed (and has been needed for years) is a simple search facility in the Inspector's caption panel.

And if it hasn’t been mentioned already, we need to have any corrections made after the automatic transcriptions to be reflected in subtitles (along with an option to override that). It seems very strange that the two functions seem to be so disconnected from one another.

Someone mentioned a "replace" option too (...in 2021), so +1 to that too.
If something is implemented, it should cover 95% of what a search/replace/etc. tool does in any applications, right off the bat.

Plus an option to replace a word everywhere it can be found, like the Replace feature of Microsoft Office Word where you can choose a word to replace it with another one everywhere. Some subtitles have words constantly misspelled or names written with lowercase, in these cases it would be helpful.

Thanks Andy.
Very helpful script.

I tried it on a timeline with 2085 subtitle clips and the search filtered out only wrong clips for some reason.
It works well on shorter timelines.

Thanks for noting that Udo, it looks like there was an effective '999' limit (due to fixed three digit zero padding on the subtitle item number). I've tweaked the code to remove that limit... but it'll be dog slow when listing and searching thousands of subtitles!
Cheers

BM get your stuff done!!!

The new Transscipt feature is fine. But atm doesnt fully work (18.6). If i select something the cursor in the timeline doesnt move to the new position.
Also if i use it to find something in the captions, as soon i click into the transscribe window the caption window closes :/

Seriously, do you guys test that stuff before release??

+1 very handy when you have say a company name that is also a normal word and it doesn't capitalise it and you have to manually change them all, at the moment I export a srt, search it in a text editor and navigate to each timecode
