…, and support for clip volume adjustments greater than +30, so that those who work in Fairlight can ingest and make the most of this format.

Fairlight support already includes 32bit audio normalization but does Deliver now also support using that normalized 32bit audio? Since several of us already use 32bit audio, full support of normalized 32bit in Deliver is needed.

Unfortunately, I think there are still some improvements for 32-bit processing.
Probably for sending a clip to "External audio process"
I had followed the discussion for the MixPre-3II and retrieved the tests in the website
https://www.sounddevices.com/sample-32- ... wav-files/RX7 does well in 32 bits as said in Sound Device but the same clip sent in RX7 since Failight Page is not recovered as well. It seems that it is not sent in 32 bits? or ?
An improvement would be welcome

As much as 32 bit float is wild overkill, it's here and more and more of us will be using it. Very much looking forward to Blackmagic updating Resolve/Fairlight to handle the format well.
I would also appreciate a statement from Blackmagic explaining what the current situation is in the software regarding the format, and a brief statement explaining what is going on with improvements to the software to address the issues. Thanks!

I just want to add my 32 bit voice. I really need full 32 bit float support!!
It's RAW for audio and soon enough we'll all be wondering why we bothered the old way, it's a godsend.
But having to use the adobe suites isn't so much!
Please - is there an indication of support coming?
thanks
Paul

Since there are now multiple devices capable of recording 32bit audio (Sounddevices MixPre II Series and Zoom F6) I also like to see DaVinci Resolve supporting it!

Yes, please! I just bought the MixPre-10 II yesterday, and will be getting it tomorrow, for a shoot the next day. 32-bit float audio in Resolve would be beautiful!

YES YES YES YES PLEASE.
I want to buy the Zoom F6 for it's 32bit float capabilities. Very very disappointing that DR cannot handle the file. Surely this will change soon.
Well Blackmagic people? Is there any news? You know you want to.

Let’s hope you get a few hours of sleep. You can use 32bit audio if you like, but set the Gain anyway so your audio levels look good to you. That’s worked for me so far.
As for the request to normalize levels greater than 30, occasionally I’ve just used the Edit Page to push higher, but not sure if that’s getting through to the Delivery Page.

Hello Mr. Lang,
Thanks. My sleep schedule has been a wreck the past week.

Testing, getting Resolve to not glitch out* on the videos because... I don't know what. I first thought it was the timecode tone from my Tentacle Sync into my main camera (put automatically in the Left audio channel). But it seems to be Resolve. May be that I have to let Windows fully boot up when it goes to desktop before I can start Resolve.
*The video would just be black with the audio playing. The thumbnail (and strip on the timeline) would be black with some glitch pattern to it, or sometimes have a very glitchy, multicolor snow pattern.
As for the audio. I will leave it at 24-bit for now, as that seems to be okay (I do set the gain to see the meter hitting between -30 to -20dB), as I don't have the luxury of time from the shoot to the due "date" a couple of hours after the shoot.

Going to have the shoot today. And have two more videos to edit, after that, due the next day. Whoa.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm glad I ran into this thread again. Guess I didn't checkmark the "Notify me when a reply is posted" last time. I'll do it now.
Cheers!

This is an essential upgrade.
In our studio, we use the same workflow Jean Claude described earlier.

I tried to load Sound Devices latest version of Wave Agent, 1.20, but it will not load and run on macOS 15 Catalina.

Used Audacity and it handles 32bit but I didn’t like the sometimes harsh sounds I heard after I normalized the singing on my Line Audio Design CM-4 recordings that are smooth and pleasant, designed for music and vocals.

Wave Agent doesn’t support 32bit float media and was last updated in 2014.

I just wanted to +1 this subject. Our studio is using a few 32bit units. From the new zoom to our presonus studio live 32.
At the moment we're bouncing tracks out in post. We absolutely love the ability to recover audio. There's no going back for us.
Hope to see it in a future update!

I think it's fairly safe to assume this will be in Resolve 17 but it really would be nice if we didn't have to wait to until April.

I won't bother arguing against 32 bit support in the next version because why not.
But in the meantime if you're in control of the shoot why not record at 24 bit if you know you'll be editing in DR? Instead of having to convert files.

I do that. But I'd
like to move up to the Zoom F6. I won't till it's full capabilities can be taken advantage of in Fairlight.
So here's hoping...

V16.2 Release Notes state support for 32 bit float in Fairlight. Anyone want to test? I don't use 32 bit.

Yup. Tested it. Works great. I actually hadn't tested it in the earlier version to be honest.
Does it not import or does it not let you adjust it down? Either way, it works in 16.2.
But id still be curious to know.

Before 16.2 you could use 32bit audio but changes you might make would not carry forward to the Deliver page so it was as if you hadn’t adjusted the audio. That’s my recollection.

Is it actually working properly? If I import a clipped 32-bit file and lower the volume in Fairlight or the mix page it's still clipped. Seems to me it's handled like 24-bit not 32-bit float.

I'd like to bump this again. I haven't seen confirmed support for this increasingly popular audio file recording. I recently purchased a ZOOM F8 for this reason. I'm very disappointed that Davinci doesn't have confirmed and working support for the file format. I'd love to see this happen.
Thanks

This request for basic functionality has been open for over 3 YEARS. It seems like a pretty quick change to remove the 30db limit if nothing else. Instead we've gotten the boring detector and a quick reframe option for TikTok videos

I am not sure what you are talking about. 32-bit float audio has been working since almost 3 years now and got introduced with 16.2
