RED IPP2 color transform method in CST Node

PostMon Oct 21, 2019 10:19 pm

Is it possible to add RED IPP2 color transform method to CST Node? Currently RED IPP2 is only available in project color management settings.

What's the reason for the color management options ever being out of sync from the CST plugin? It's frustrating for certain workflows.

RED IPP2 color transform math provides smoother saturation rolloff than Resolve CST node with Saturation mapping. It helps to fix red channel clipping problem, known in Pocket4k cameras + color science v4.
If RED IPP2 color transform option was already added to color space transform inside project settings so why don't add it to CST node as well? CST node provides better flexibility over fixed project settings color transform. You can separate gamma and color transforms and manipulate them separately on different stages, you can insert film emulation LUTs before or after color transform node for cool effects, and so on...
Also Color Managed project settings have some disadvantages like glitches in Fusion text generator, weaker green colors in RAW from Blackmagic cameras, unable to switch between Color Science versions and so on...

Redwidegamut/log3g10 —> is not always IPP2....

IPP2 is image processing pipeline https://www.red.com/news/upgrade-your-w ... g-pipeline
It consists of Redwidegamut/log3g10 color space/gamma and transformation math with different contrast and color compression strength presets.

In my request i mean IPP2 transformation math.

Currently for YRGB project Resolve have it's own transformation math known as CST node with Luma and Saturation mapping (or same in YRGB Color Managed project settings).

For YRGB project Resolve also have ACES transformation math in ACES Transform node (or same in ACES project settings).

Also Resolve have IPP2 transformation math in YRGB Color Managed project settings. And it allow to transform with IPP2 transformation math not only from RWG/Log3G10, but from ANY color space/log gamma you want.

 But for YRGB project Resolve don't have yet IPP2 transformation math in CST node or in any other special separate IPP2 node. People are yet forced to use x33 sized IPP2 LUTs provided by RED.

The "ipp2 processing timeline" is a special red sauce, not really standard, and considering how many times red changed their color science and camera firmware, I will say no, it's a waste of resources to chase a single manufacturer drill.

In that spirit, why we don't put the alexa KxSx tonal mapping, or the Sony Slog mapping.

Personally it's a waste of resources.

Strange logic... RED IPP2 already exists in Resolve project settings, so it is very simple to put it inside CST node as well.
I be happy to see alexa KxSx tonal mapping in CST node as well.
Currently i personally use custom made LUTs for separate colors and gamma compression. LUT based on RED IPP2 for colors only mapping and LUT based on Arri for Lof to gamma compression.
