Please allow 'paused resolution' vs 'playback resolution'

PostTue Oct 22, 2019 10:24 am

Please allow in settings the user to select different levels of 'res' when dealing with paused vs playback RAW files.

Particularly RED debayer (eg. 1/4 res when playing, full res when paused).

When image is paused you can get into sharpening/NR without fiddling with project settings.

Would be so helpful. I have transitioned from Premiere to DVR studio, and i'm missing this feature.

Thanks!
Alex

I have noticed that Proxy mode does this. Playback will reduce in quality while Pause look to be full quality.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thanks Jim, but it doesn't help with the debayering setting unfortunately. From the manual:

"The Use Proxy command will improve performance when grades and effects are responsible for your project’s slower than real time playback, but Use Proxy won’t help when real time performance is being used up by the need to debayer raw media. While you could improve playback performance by taking the time to either generate optimized media (see below) or render to the Fusion Output Cache by enabling the Smart Cache (see later in this chapter), the fastest solution is to open the Camera Raw panel of the Project Settings and reduce the Decode Quality of the raw media formats you’re using"

Sadly this means going into the menu, and changing [project settings>camera Raw>Decode quality] every time you want to see a full res paused frame, then [project settings>camera raw>Decode quality] again to get back to your playback setup. As far as i can make out, Resolve manual goes on to suggest that creating optimised media for the whole project is a solution, but i feel this is a time consuming step and i would rather just be able to select 'paused res' and 'playback res' as individual options.

Hi Kenzo, I have my performance mode set to Auto. Wasn't sure from your brief message exactly what settings you were suggesting, or did you just mean 'have i tried putting it to manual' as a test?

It is my understanding that 'auto' is the same as manual with all the three boxes below ticked - i imagine manual is there if you want to select one or two but not all 3?

Same here! Just switched to DR from PP and this was one of the first things I noticed. It's absolutely necessary to have this because so many shots would get a bunch of effects applied to them and I'm ok with the lower resolution when I'm playing them back but once I pause playback I expect to see what the actual frame looks like in full res. Both Premiere and After Effects have that. I'm surprised this feature is missing in DR.
