Fix X/Y coordinate limit bug in "transform"

PostWed Dec 04, 2019 10:40 pm

It would be nice to have the bug fixed where the X/Y position in "transform" is limited. You can drag a clip's position around visually far beyond the X/Y position coordinates, but if you do so, the coordinates won't reflect this. If you need an exact X or Y position beyond the coordinate limit, you can't have it as you can't type it in, so it must be done by eye... not good if you're trying to match an existing X or Y position which is also beyond the limit. It seems like that would be an easy bug to fix.

I've never had a problem here. What are you thinking it's limited to?

X can not be greater than 15,360 or less than -15,360
Y can not be greater than 8,640 or less than -8,640

But you can drag an image beyond those coordinates and have it display on screen properly, however the coordinates won't reflect the actual position (since X/Y is oddly capped).

That might seem like a huge distance, but if you're working with high resolution images and, for example, need to pan or zoom a large distance, the X/Y coordinates are useless and returning to an exact position is basically impossible.

Got it.

I've never had an image that large to hit those limits.

This issue is still present for me. Mine Y coordinate is limited to -784. Must be some setting I have set incorrectly. Thanks for the reminder that I can remove it manually. I am new to this and forget I could do that.

The Effects > OpenFX > Resolve FX Transform > "Transform" effect will probably get you where you need to go.
Let's have a return to the glory days, when press releases for new versions included text like "...with over 300 new features and improvements that professional editors and colorists have asked for."

Thank you, i will try this.

Though it does not answer the question, why the transform coordinates are limited. Maybe it depends on the resolution of the clip?

Yep, that seems to be the consensus.
