Ability to zoom into the preview screens scrubber/timeline.

PostThu Jan 16, 2020 3:01 pm

Sorry if this is already possible, but if it is I can't work out how. My most missed feature from Adobe Premier.

I miss this feature as well, and would love to see it implemented in Resolve. Makes manual scrubbing of long clips/timelines much easier.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

I'm not sure I follow. Can you provide some clarification?

In Premiere Pro, we can Zoom into the 'timeline' under the two Viewers, just like we can in the working timeline below them.

Oh! Just opened up Premiere and see what you're talking about. Are we just talking about adding to this to Source Viewer or are you asking for it in the Timeline viewer as well? Because I actually made a thread that kind of pushed for removing that timeline in the Timeline Viewer because I didn't see the point.

I completely understand it for the Source Viewer though. That's one of the reason I want the Source Viewer from the Cut page to replace the one in the Edit page. It doesn't necessarily have the ability to zoom but it does have a zoomed in version of the timeline.

Yea personally I would only need it for the source viewer. I use the source viewer for long videos that I need to take shots from.

Good! Now I won't doubt myself on my idea that gets rid of the slider in the Timeline viewer lol

I hate that the Cut page exists but have you tried the Source viewer in that?

Every viewer in the program. Makes no sense to add it to one.

It doesn't have much of a point in the Timeline viewer. That's why it's not there in the Cut page. All it would is the play heads position in the timeline but that's already represented by the mini-timeline and the scroll bar.

Yea I agree I never use it, but now I'm wondering why it's there and I can see some use cases. Such as if you are zoomed into the main timeline but want to quickly jump to different markers or see where you are in the context of the rest of the video. Also easier visibility of markers/timeline while watching the video, as requires less eye movement to see where you are at. And like I said, you might not be zoomed out in the main timeline so it's good to see where you are at in the overall project.

My feature request to bring the Cut page's mini-timeline to the Edit page and merge it with the scroll bar kind of covers all of that :-)

Ah interesting. Thanks for sharing. I haven't played with the cut page as it wouldn't work with my abstract workflow. But I can definitely see the benefit of such a feature taken from the cut page.

I'm a big fan of the shift+z shortcut for zooming and and out. Very nice

I found it useful in Premiere Pro. While I don't hold this one as high priority, I would like to see it in Resolve as well.

+ 1

An example from Sony Vegas:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ogK8Sr ... ZSC43/view

This would be not only helpful for longer clips, but also for longer timelines like a timeline with all the shots you want to use. Or just other longer timelines or compound clips you want to have a look at.
The same goes of course for the Source Viewer on the Edit page.

And a resizable thumbnail strip would also be great.

4 years since this post and still no implementation from Black Magic.. A pitty because although it might sound like a detail, missing this functionally is actually extremely annoying for documentary work, involving very long takes and interviews... Premiere has it.., even Sony Vegas,... so please implement this urgently
