Color picker: memorize custom colors in project

PostTue Mar 31, 2020 8:26 pm

Hi,

It would be nice if custom colours saved in the colour picker would be saving in the project file for future references. Right now, when Resolve is closed, they are gone.

I also found this question on the same subject, but no suggestions on it.

please - this would be awesome. as it stands i have to write down or memoize hex/RGB codes. would be even better to have a global (cross-project) custom colors palette or multiple "style" schemes to work with or something.

Yes yes please. This is driving me nuts! It seems like a simple thing to have selected colors saved in the same project.. it's been requested at least since 2017.. (!)

Hello from 2021 - I would really appreciate this as well! I'm using Fusion to do a simple color overlay on some PNGs and some MOVs with an alpha channel. But my colors never save after I restart Resolve.

Yes! Also in regular edit page...I can set a custom color but then when I set a new one it overides the top left chip, meaning the other white chips are just there to look pretty? I don't really get it but would welcome BMD's information on this.

I can fully relate to this. My workaround is a custom palette node that I add to my drafts. See pic. From there I go with the picker.

I like this workaround, at least it saves the time of typing in RGB codes (my current reality). Of course, the ideal solution would be for Resolve to save user colors to hard drive like it does with various other user preferences... It can't be that difficult to do on the backend.

Let's think about a smarter way to do it.

Do you know how the PowerGrades and the Stills Folders are separated inside the Gallery? Wouldn't it be nice if we had Color Pallet folders and Global Pallets (akin to PowerGrades, that are there for every project inside the database)?

We could have a list view, showing, from left to right:
- The solid color thumbnail (a small square)
- The name of the color (automatic* or custom)
- The dynamic coordinates (we should be able to set them in HSL or RGB, always color managed)

*Automatic naming could come from HSL vectors. Something like a 2 words name followed by a number. For exemple: Light Blue 1; Dark Red 4; Pure Green 2; Mid Cyan, etc.

The pallet folder could have an Icon composed of the first 9 swatches. It would be gorgeous.

I agree, custom colors should at the very least be saved per project. In fact it's mind-boggling this hasn't already been done since it's so trivial to do...

I just want to add my voice to the others !

Please add this function, I'm working on multiple projects, all related to the same brand, so I'm using mainly the same 5 colours over and over again, but each time I need to enter them manually... it really is "mind-boggling" to see that no one from Blackmagic has reacted to this trend...
