Zoom to cursor not to playhead

PostMon Jun 29, 2020 8:40 am

In my oppinion it would be better and faster if zoom function would be snapped to mouse cursor not to playhead. Fast move to other place on timeline require zoom out, move playhead and zoom in. I think second step is unnesesery waste of time.

Yes, I would definitely like this as an option.

I think the ideal implementation would the ability to set the default behaviour - either from playhead or from cursor - and to be able to swap to the alternative by holding a configurable modifier key.

This has been requested for several years. Still hoping it will be in the next version! Along with Edit page mouse wheel zoom without having to hold down a modifier or placing the cursor exactly in the timeline header. I would like to have it work as smoothly as it does in the Color page.

I agree that cursor centered zooming would be a great addition to all areas of Resolve.

A good idea. I work mainly on Avid, where zoom working exactly the same as in Resolve (zoom to playhead) and for me it is perfect.
But if you could choose the option in Preferences, I think everyone would be happy.

Yeah. With features like this, it's usually the case that some people always want X, some always Y, and many people sometimes want X and sometimes Y. Whichever of X and Y is wanted most often by the most people should be the default, but there should also be a way to select the other option on demand. Hence the use of modifier keys.

Reaper (DAW software) is an app that does this very well. Every mouse action the software supports can be configured, specifying what mouse button it uses and whether modifiers are involved. The defaults are setup according to what they think most people will want the majority of the time, but various modifier keys can be held to select alternatives, and all of that can be customised in any way the user wants, then saved as presets, copied between workstations, etc.
