Improved Workflow for Spliting Captions

Add a button to the caption panel that splits the caption at a user-designated spot in the text and the playback head simultaneously.

Use case: a caption is too long and needs to be divided into two entries

Current solution: split the caption in the timeline using the cut tool (effectively duplicating the caption), edit the text of each to remove the redundant text

Ideal: the user indicates what text needs to be split based off type cursor location, and when it needs to be split based off the playback head, and a single input divides the caption element into two.

Compromise: the timeline element is simply split in half, with text before the type cursor in the first element and all text after in the second element.

In general I would like to see a lot of improvements to captioning workflows. They are, across virtually all accessible software platforms, cumbersome and time-consuming, with little support for quickly (or at least easily) generating good captions from transcripts.

I was gonna make a thread where I suggest this but I was going to suggest merging Subtitles and ADR. Both require the same information to be set up and both are beneficial to the other. The only difference is that a subtitle "clip" is generally shorter than what you might record with ADR so my idea was to adding a tool that works like keyframes that represent subtitle breaks. Then you can have one clip that works like an ADR cue and several subtitles.

The both already use pretty much the same UI, too.

I added captions to my timeline because the UI is a little easier, and then I had to export the SRT, find an online converted and import the CSV to work with ADR. It would be much easier if there is an option to sync Subtitles with ADR and ADR with subtitles.

I had to do subtitles from plain text with no time code. It required lot of manual work.

This feature suggestion is exactly how I imagined working with subtitles with to time code should work. It would make great difference. Creating subtitle would be much easier and quicker.

I give my my voice for this.
