Copy/paste EQ and dynamics settings to/from tracks

So on each track's EQ and Dynamics settings, there's no way to save a preset or to easily copy one track's settings and paste them on another track.

EG. I have two VO tracks that I would like EQ and dynamics settings. I'll set up one and then and it would be nice to be able to copy that and apply it to the other track as a starting point where I can tweak it. But right now we have to start from scratch.

On a side note regarding presets,

While presets are nice to have. Simply being able to copy a config and paste it quickly is a real time-saver (an approach like drag/drop EQ to EQ would be awesome). Besides, with the other bug I just posted, with presets disappearing with version upgrades, I'm not confident in creating presets if they are going to be lost easily with no way to back them up.

It would be fantastic if there was a folder located somewhere easy to find that would store all of the presets in a file format that we could then backup somewhere secure. It would also make it easier for us to duplicate the presets/settings across installations of DR.

Fairlight menu > Presets Library.

Options include Equaliser, Dynamics, Plugins, Global Track, Global Bus, and Full Console presets.

Right click the source Audio Track's header and select “Copy Attributes” in the contextual menu.

On the destination Track use “Paste Attributes” to bring up a window with options for EQ and Dynamics, among others.

On macOS, the Presets Library's data files are located within:
Users/Home/Library/Preferences/Black Magic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fairlight/Presets

Dedicated folders are available for Channel, Console, etc.
Each folder contains .dat files - one for each preset.

A Preset Manager can be accessed via the Additional Options button (3 dots) on all Fairlight AFX plugins, with custom presets being added via the Plus button next to the preset drop-down.

Within the Preset Manager you can Export custom presets to a user specified target directory for archiving, as well as Import custom Presets back in to the Preset Manager.

So I guess my concerns are actually with continuity.

All the other plugins or effects presets are contained within the plugin UI itself wherewith the EQ and dynamics, it's found elsewhere.

Thanks for pointing out these tidbits!

I will add that continuity is important. While I really do like DR, I find it hard to love it. Many times to do something somewhat simple, I've found myself going back to AE. I don't know if it's because it's a one-stop-shop with all the components built-in together as opposed to Adobe and the different apps. But there are so many things either non-existent, lacking or just not thought out very well.

I have high hopes though.

Thanks again Reynaud

You could use your own EQ and dynamics plugins instead and save the whole chain as a custom preset to reuse on any tracks you want.

To be fair you raise a good point. Everyone works a bit differently and some workstations "fit" some approaches and mindsets better than others. There is no one best way, and it's important to choose tools that fit your way of working, approach and aesthetic. At the end of the day, it's just a tool, and a good tool should disappear and let you focus on your work and stay in the flow. For some people Resolve is great, for others FCP, ProTools (for audio), Premiere or other tools are simply a better fit. People are making world class content on all of them!

Lastly, I would add that to really get the most out of any tool, you need to spend enough time with it to become familiar and comfortable. Coming to Resolve/Fairlight from Sonic and Nuendo has been a big change, and the first things I noticed was everything that was missing. After reading through the online documentation, videos and taking a BMD/Fairlight course, as well as spending more time in Resolve in general, I now feel much more adept and am able to navigate around with ease and focus on what I want to accomplish, rather than chasing down a menu or feature I can't find.

That too makes a difference.

I have a similar question... The EQ presets I created in Fairlight are not accessible in the track page of Edit screen. How can I copy them over to the track presets? Better yet, how do I back up these presets and copy to another workstation?

Fairlight Clip EQ Presets are not currently compatible with the Fairlight Channel EQ or the Fairlight EQ AFX.

Fairlight Presets may be backed-up from Resolve's Preferences folder located in the following paths:

macOS:
Users/Home/Library/Preferences/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Fairlight/Presets

Windows:
Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences\Fairlight\Presets\

Thanks for that information. Confirms what I suspected.

Is that information also backed up when I back up the DR database?
