Edit Page Spline Scale

With Retime Speed, we can change the scale of the spline graph by clicking and dragging horizontally on the scale percentage.

That ability should be added to all parameters.

I agree that spline graph displays need the capability to display the full range of used values. Some keyframe edits, such as Position and Zoom (in Edit mode) may have values beyond the default display range provided. The ability to adjust such views to include the full range of values would be very helpful.

Version 17 has been officially released, and man what an incredible update!

BMD can't do everything we want in the "next version", so I wanted to bump this idea, which didn't make the cut for 17.

this is necessary. The vertical axis must be extended with zoom, and with a scroll bar. I understand that this can mean a complete reprogramming of that part of the Edit page.

Version 18 was just released. Not all Feature Requests can be done at once, and this one didn't make the cut.

So here it is for continued voting.

+1 for adding zoom controls....

but (for some of us) perhaps a bigger picture solution would be Just replace the Edit Page 'Curve Editor' with a mini version of the Fusion Page 'Spline' panel, which already has horizontal and vertical zoom controls, zoom to fit, zoom to rectangle and a host of powerful spline modification controls... or perhaps a best of both worlds solution might be to keep the current 'simple controls' design, but augment that with an 'advanced controls' (aka Fusion style) pop out option, similar to the pop out 'Big Curves' window in the Color Page.

Alternatively, I personally wouldn't mind if the Edit Page Transform controls were just a transparent way of applying a special Fusion Page 'Edit Transform' node or some such device - then when folks needed extended/granular control they could switch by whatever means to the Fusion Page to tweak the (Edit Transform node) controls in the Spline panel.

This is a must have, I'd dare say that this one feature would be the difference between a regular video editor, and a great one.

good reminder, Jim.

It reminds me of a project with a dancer, which was recorded with one camera. I told her that it was recorded in 4k, and we could do an edit with the original and reframing. That it is not too difficult to do.

So I started editing, used the brilliant automatic reframing feature in Resolve, and it worked nicely. I just had to adjust the automated reframing throughout the performance, moving x and y parameters.

To my astonishment I saw a flat curve in the spline editor. And no vertical zoom option. I would have had to use numerical values. Which is not an option for a clip lasting more than an hour.

I had two options. Spend an unaffordable amount of time with value editing, or transfer the entire project to Premiere Pro or After Effect, which I don't have access to anymore - meaning, I know how easy it is to do this fine-tuning of keyframes.

---

I had to quit that project, because I knew it would cost the client ten times more, and suggested to her to consult a professional editor. This other editor wasn't able to do this reframing too, for reasons I don't know.

I could have done this project easily in few hours, if only Resolve had a vertical zoom and enlargement for splines. That left a profound impression in me. I know that DaVinci was primarily a colour grading suite. But DaVinci Resolve has become the leader with such a brilliant design, combining all the tools one need. Even with a Cut and Edit page. Absolutely genius. If it just had a proper keyframe/spline editing window.

Just come across this - very bizarre omission. Switching to Resolve has been a mixture of pleasure at how intuitive and modern some parts of the program feel and frustration that others are so awful and seemingly have been for years.

Being able to zoom in on the edit page spline editor would make keyframing workflows on the edit page so so so much better. The workaround methods using compound clips, adjustment clips, or fusion, all have their own drawbacks.

The minimum change for the spline editor to be functional would be to allow for zooming in once a specific curve is selected. I agree with the previous post that the best case scenario would be to have access to the spline editor from fusion, since that spline editor is amazing.

Thank you so much to anyone who works on Davinci!

+1,000,000! The Fusion spline editor isn't perfect, but it is light years ahead of what is on the Edit page. I've long stopped trying to do any sort of keyframing or spline editing on the Edit page, it is terrible.

Having one editor (from Fusion) across all of the pages would provide a consistent user experience for us and it would also be far more efficient for BMD as well. They would only have to make updates to that one editor and the changes would apply everywhere. No need to maintain and update multiple editors that essentially do the same thing. Just scrap what isn't working well and use the one that is.

+1 too. Sometimes just to be able to grab the curve handle and adjust it's timing on a retime I have to expand the clip out just to be able to see the handles. I know I can zoom vertically, but not horizontally when it's needed.

*Edit: it would be really nice to not only have a scale option but also an autoscale that fits the selected curve to the curve viewer and adjusts in realtime when you changed values to fit again.

The more i advance in Davinci (especially in the Fusion tab), the more i wish there was an app that actually understands what designers need or at least listens to feedback. One day there will be one that fulfills ALL of the bare minimum QOL features.

This Needs to be addressed immediately as a lot of content is requiring speed ramps and in general is a massive pain, having the panel for the spline editor just like the fusion page has in the edit page is a must. right now it verges on unusable. :x

It’s a guessing game to position the bezier handles where you want them.
It would be great to be able to create precise pan & zoom animations on the edit page, without having to switch to Fusion.

Dear Blackmagic team, please make the splines finally usable for all the option you could control with them! I know all this stuff could be done inside the fusion, but sometimes you just need something quite simple, but it's either impossible or a real pain to achieve it with the current curves control.
