I spent the past hour trying to troubleshoot an issue with rendering a timeline, where I'd randomly get this error when rendering clips:

I kept thinking it was a GPU error, a corrupt media error, a memory issue, and any number of other typical issues that one would usually workaround in Resolve. So I went through the laundry list of all of those standard troubleshooting workarounds.
Then purely by accident, I figured out that the volume that the job was rendering to had actually run out of space! I have since setup some iStat Menus notifications to warn me ahead of time when disks are low on space, but Resolve should still explicitly warn the user when the volume that it is rendering files to runs out of space.
Just out of curiosity, I checked the davinci_resolve.log, and these were the errors that were recorded (BTW, this log shows me trying to render to a 1GB RAMdisk, which I did for testing purposes, lest anyone think I'm a doofus for trying to render a project to a 1GB RAMdisk!
):
So as you can see, the log file was just as unhelpful as the error popup, as there is no indication that insufficient disk space was the reason for the encode failure (though I suppose the hexadecimal code at the beginning of each log entry may have more specific meaning for the Resolve engineers?)
This is another example of where Resolve really needs to improve on its user-facing error & status reporting, as discussed in these threads:
