Support for WEBP and GIF

PostTue Oct 13, 2020 7:11 pm

As someone who makes content for youtube, being able to just save memes and things from the web and bring them in directly would save a ton of time.

My current workaround is a browser extension that can save webps as jpgs, but I have to remember to use it, and currently there's nothing for gifs.

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

You can use Infanview to convert GIF'S to PNG sequences with transparency, check my reply to this similar thread: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=117527

And i would like to be able to export GIFs too.

My reasoning for that :
Easier to post memes (lol)

But more seriously :

The community tab on YouTube accepts gifs, and saw many creators using it to showcase something very quickly. Better than a static image, and better than a link to a video (text and images are more likely to be pushed in people's feed on youtube).

I often want to showcase bugs or other things on forums, mostly here. I see people using gifs, and it's very practical.

+1 to this. As someone who creates content on youtube, the ability to make gifs for image posts without having to find another app would be a huge time saver

I'd like to support this. I'd pay for this functionality. Currently I have to go convert webp's to png's.

Just a bump, to get this in the next release... for WebP.
I use it more and more now instead of PNGs.
The file size, the quality, and the fact that it can be animated.

On top of that, so many assets are in this format too.

It shouldn't be a problem. It is embedded in Qt:

+1 for webp support. It would shorten the workflow of having to convert images downloaded from the web significantly. Not sure when webp became the standard, but Resolve needs to respect that by adding support.

Another day another Davinci Resolve release, but with WEBP nowhere to be found. Would be great to incorporate this sooner rather than later, and to omit an extra step of constantly having to resave images downloaded from the web! It takes a while.

How come they dont integrate webp, its becoming such a popular format.

Having to change image type in photoshop everytime i want to add a webp image is painful..

This is what I use too. I have an old version but it still works. I should be thinking of upgrading it but it’s always dry low on my todo list. ;(

I was hoping for version 19, but I can confirm that it's not working on macOS at least
