Data Burn-In should be able to target a specific track

PostTue Oct 27, 2020 11:22 am

What the title says.
In multitrack timelines we should be able to specify the track that provides the metadata displayed by Data Burn-In.

Actually, I'd rephrase that.

Each track should be able to have the full Data Burn-in range of fields available.
So if there are 3 video tracks and I would want to have a Source TC shown for each one, I should be able to do so.
And of course, one set for the full timeline.

Right now the Data Burn-In has two tabs, Timeline and Clip. I think there should be one tab for each track of the Timeline.

+1. Is there currently any way/hack to target a track for a data burn in?

I think having the Data Burn In functionality available as an effect would give the most flexibility.
The effect should still be able to target different tracks.

This is how Avid and Premiere Pro do it and it just works, no matter how complex the workflow or the timeline structure.

Yeah, I've said before that I've gotten some Avid reference movies from editors and was surprised that they had the ability to superimpose vis TC from multiple video tracks at one time, which is not a feature we currently have in Resolve. I don't doubt that it's complex to implement.
