Media organization

PostThu Nov 05, 2020 6:55 pm

I would like the media page to make changes to the actual clip instead of keeping all the info within the project. I shoot with the BMPCC 6K and often I don't have time to rename and organize my clips into subfolders before I start my edit, in order to make deadlines.

So what I would like is to be able to go in after an edit is completed, go to the media page and start arranging my clips into folders on the server and renaming them to something other than A001-00001, and add the metadata. I would want any changes we make to those clips be understood by Resolve so that they keep their links for the project and you dont have to manually re-link everything.

This way I can keep all my clips organized on the server without having to go back into each project and manually make sure I relink every clip to the new clip name.

Oh, hell no! NLEs should remain non-destructive.

I don't think the actual feature request is asking for anything destructive, he just wants to be able to organize clips and rename clips in the Media Pool and then tell Resolve to change the actual names and folder structure in storage to match the layout of the Media Pool.

I'm gonna +1 for now because I don't see too much harm in it but I don't think it's something I would use.

Do you happen to use any batch rename tools in Finder/Explorer?

That is destructive, though. An NLE should only read the media, never change it.

That's not destructive. The filenames can be changed back and it would be like nothing changed to begin with.
