Dynamic Zoom...

PostFri Nov 20, 2020 2:25 am

I'm new to DaVinci but I do find the Dynamic Zoom a weak implementation of pan & zoom. Probably the most basic video editor I've used is Corel Videostudio, but their Pan & Zoom is easier to use and more powerful. Have a look for yourselves.

Questions:
How do I know which clips I've applied Dynamic Zoom?
Why do the red & green boxes show up when I move to the next clip? It makes me wonder if I'm setting a dynamic zoom globally or to one clip.
Do I have to toggle Dynamic Zoom on every clip, or turn it off on clips where I don't need that feature? Why does it always seem to be on, for all of the clips, even if I've only applied it to one clip?
Why doesn't the green box animate toward red as you scrub?

If you have Dynamic Zoom activated, you'll see the overlay on all your clip. Just put it back on Transform, or simply click on the icon (it will simply deactivate the overlay)
But I agree, the tool needs to be reworked.

Put it back on Transform so that the overlays disappear? But what if you did create a dynamic zoom for that clip...would you be deleting your dynamic zoom by putting it on Transform? How do you know if you created a dynamic zoom for a given clip?

Yes.

BTW, I forgot something in my previous response (I edited it), you can simply click on the dynamic zoom icon to deactivate the overlay (the effect will still be on the clip). It works the same for all the overlays

But what if you did create a dynamic zoom for that clip...would you be deleting your dynamic zoom by putting it on Transform?

No, it's just an overlay for this particular tool. You can activate/deactivate the effect from the Inspector, with the little red switch (it's off by default).
How do you know if you created a dynamic zoom for a given clip?

You'll see a zoom effect if you play it :D And you'll see the red switch activated on the Inspector too.
