Bypass Nose Reduction on Playback toggle

PostFri Nov 27, 2020 3:48 am

Idea from this thread viewtopic.php?f=21&t=127209
Option to Bypass Nose Reduction on Playback or at least "Bypass NR" quick toggle could be really useful.

Thanks, Dmitry, for putting this up here. Like mentioned in the other thread, you can sort of do this with shared nodes, but lose the ability to tweak the settings to suit individual clips. As a compromise, I use "low", "mid", and "high" shared NR nodes, but there's a danger of forgetting to switch them back on before rendering.

So, to have it as an option for Toggle Bypass would make a lot of sense.

I would prefer a global solution for all effects and not just noise reduction. Some OFX plugins are really heavy.

A toggle icon named "Show on playback" next to the on/off switch on the inspector.
The icon will be on by default for each effect, if the icon is turned off the effect will be not visible during playback. And somewhere else another toggle to quick enable all bypassed playback effects.

Great idea, Panagiotis! But i guess it should be combined somehow with global bypass/enable toggle. So the structure may consist of for parts:

1. "Bypass during playback" switch for each filter.
2. "Bypass during playback" global switch to bypass/enable on playback all marked filters together in single click.

If you’re looking for similar NR on your clips, you could make a shared node with the NR on it so when your disable it, it disables on all the clips

The problem I see is that if one effect had it's own Bypass, then there's no end to the requests for other effects to be individually Bypassed.

That's just...messy.

I think the current Global Bypass is the better way. The only tweak I might suggest is to add an OFX option along with Color and Fusion.

With that option, then choosing Color would Bypass only Corrector nodes. OFX would Bypass effects added on Cut, Edit or Color, and Fusion would Bypass everything done on the Fusion page.

A "Bypass NR" button would be great.
The idea of Inspector settings is great also.

I think a simple solution would be: use a Fixed Node Tree and just make one of the nodes NR. Then if you're experiencing slow-downs, select the node, bypass it, then select all the nodes in the timeline and use Color -> Ripple Node Changes to Selected Clips. In this case, you'd only ripple the changes to #7, the "Noise Red" node. Here's a node tree where that would work:

Of course, you could use a much more complex node structure, even 30-40-50 nodes if you wanted. This will give you the functionality you're looking for without a lot of trouble.

Bypassing a Node on Playback would be nice beyond the normal build-in NR. In my case, I prefer to use Neat DeNoise NR. So I guess it would be better that every user can turn any Node into a Bypass Node if he want it for whatever reason.

I can imagine a global toggle state on Preview that you can set to:
A) "Preview all Nodes" (what we used to have)
B) "Do not Preview Bypass Nodes" (for fastest Preview)
and maybe an in between State C) "Preview Bypass Node only if rendered."
