Subtitle to text conversion

PostSat Dec 26, 2020 3:29 am

I had a problem where the subtitles where done by text, one by one (long story, we had to match a 2009 movie exactly for HDR), and doing multiple versions is painful.

What if I can have a subtitle track (STR) and upon command i tell the machine to create the correspondent [text] elements with the style [x] (given for example by the first element in the timeline or other method) where the test is copied and the length is copied?

There are nuances in the text and text+ that does not exist in the subtitling track but it is extremely easier to edit the subtitling track on other platform (even just a text editor), and simply import it.

Thanks!

If your starting point is an SRT, you may want to consider solutions that convert them to importable formats - e.g. https://www.google.com/search?q=srt+to+fcpxml

No, once you have a subtitle track in resolve, that is the line that should be converted to “text”, how i handle and io port the .srt is irrelevant.

I would also be keen to have this feature, specifically I need to move text from a video track to the subtitle track

TITLE TEXT to SUBTITLE TRACK conversion

PostSun Feb 13, 2022 3:59 am

I am not sure if this is useful to anyone, but here it goes.

Case: Client's old projects had subtitles created manually using BASIC TEXT TITLE either on FCP or Resolve and needed to be converted into SUBTITLE TRACK in Resolve.

Solution:
1. Export a CLEAN track with only the TEXT TITLE (File > Export Timeline > choose FCXML 1.5)

2. Go to https://resolver.tools/subsimple/ and choose FCPXML to SRT and import the exported FCPXML earlier. Click SEND and wait for it to be available for download. Save it to your local drive.

3. Go back to Resolve and choose File > Import > Subtitle... (Select the previous Saved SRT from SubSimple). Your SUBTITLE DATA will be created in the Master Bin.

4. Create an empty SUBTITLE TRACK and drag the newly created SUBTITLE DATA into the SUBTITLE TRACK. Now you have full control over your SUBTITLE TRACK formatting and can be re-exported to SRT or VTT as needed.

It worked for me after a long search for a solution.
