Inspector / Attribute presets

PostSat Jan 02, 2021 10:37 am

Hello everyone,

I couldn't be happier with Resolve and its development. I am a Premiere user for years and I was fed up with its instability. Resolve software is a rebirth!

But what I really miss is something very useful that I would love Davinci had: Custom inspector or attibute presets. It would be useful to save clicks if those custom zooms, rotations, etc. are repeated in future projects and sequences. Custom actions previously set up for myself to apply instantly.

What I do instead is paste previous attributes from other clips using ALT + V. But this is only if you keep a clip with custom attributes done in a timeline, which is not a good solution.

Something like "Attribute presets" in effects or presets window would be really nice to be implemented.

Is there any option or plugin for this? Or is something to be considered in future beta versions?

Thank you in advance!

Are you asking about custom Transitions? (Those are possible.)

Or something else?

No. He means a mechanism to save presets of specific inspector values and configurations.

I like the idea in theory, but am having a hard time seeing how you could fit this into the Inspector UI without a lot of clutter, for what would be a very esoteric use case. I love being able to save presets for things, but in all my years of working with NLEs, I've rarely felt that I wanted a full on, parameter level preset saving system for things like this. I've always used 3rd party macro utilities like Keyboard Maestro to type/paste in specific, pre-configured parameter values for Inspector attribute fields.

Ahhh, Effect Presets.

I can't say I think that's a bad idea.

Hello again!

Thank you for your replies! I have edited the first post because I still want a plugin for this or a future implementation. Would you like it too? Do you see it necessary?

Maybe I am doing wrong and I don't kwow alternatives for this...

Hi.

Have you solved this as you can save pre-sets, Resolve has 6 pre sets for each Fusion Effect. Although not intuitive it is straight forward enough.

You can also set custom parameters as defaults.

I think it is not obvious as these are on the fusion page, as long as the effect you are adding is under the effects page in the inspector you can click on the wand icon to the right and save pre sets (versions).

Let me know if you need more info.

I completely agree with this. This is one of the few things keeping me from completely switching to Resolve.

I use a LOT of templates and presets within Premiere Pro. Usually to quickly do a number of things to a layer, such as size, locate, drop shadow, etc. Something I do repeatedly throughout many of the templates. I tried converting (or recreating one of my templates and editing an entire video in Resolve and the lack of this option was driving me insane.

I did find a way to create something like this and save within a bin but when you drag it onto a video clip (actually, it was an image), it adds it as a layer above and affects ALL layers under it. I can't have that.

It wound up taking me forever to finish editing that file and I eventually switched back to PPro until I can figure this out.

This is exactly what I mean.

I wish they this into account. Resolve is amazing, but there are a few crucial things they can add, such as this atribute presents. PLEASE.

+1 ... using Adjustment Clips to store 'presets' (in Power Bins) is ok as a workaround, but a dedicated solution would be superior.

Hello.

I think I got the gist of the thread.

You can create dedicated pre-sets to change any parameter of a macro using a button.

It is possible to add unlimited pre-sets by adding some additional code. A large part of these pre-sets can be added during the build stage within DaVinci Resolve Fusion. Adding a button for each pre-set and placing the buttons on a separate page within the inspector. Entering the code for the pre-set inside the execute portion of the button control. "tool:SetInput('Size', 0.9)" when the button is selected the parameters of "Size" will change to "0.9". Each button can have a list of parameters to change by adding \n after each "tool:SetInput('nameoftool', parameterRequired)\n tool:SetInput('nameofnexttool', parameterRequired) ". As long as the fusion composition is not converted into a macro by using the "Create Macro" option the pre-sets will work.

However once the fusion composition has been converted to a macro then the output code is different as there are now 2 main sections to the code. The top section is the "InstanceInput" this is what is seen inside the inspector. The "Tools" section of the code is the actual nodes. Add a code snippet to both the "Tools" node and the "InstanceInput" will allow for "BTNCS_Execute" to accept a simple syntax to change the parameters of each control. E.g BTNCS_Execute = "tool:SetInput('Input17',1)\n tool:SetInput('Input20',45)",

As the control has been passed to the InstanceInput the Tool name no longer applies to the pre-set, hence it no longer works. Using the inspector on the fusion page we are able to see what "Input" the control has now been assigned. We can then change the BTNCS_Execute command inside the code to reflect those changes.

Hope that helps and happy to create pre-sets if you send the macro over.

John

I think it may be possible that you didn't John... this thread is not really discussing saving Fusion based macro options. Agreed, it is a powerful option for adventurous users who enjoy playing with such things... but it's not approachable for the 'common' user. This thread is discussing the lack of any simple user friendly means to save Inspector based presets, regardless of page.

Hello

Fair enough!

Although I may not have explained myself very well.

The person who created the macro can add this functionality and the user can just save settings, anyone creating a macro can add them whilst doing so. So the end user can have a simple user friendly option.

Page 144 of the Fusion 17 manual explains this

Hope that is a little clearer.

I think the point is that no-one here is talking about Fusion and Macros, John ... for example, how does your solution handle OFX plugins or indeed anything other than a Fusion Effect? How about saving presets in the Fairlight Page Inspector window? Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Fusion templates etc and you're very clearly here to help, and its appreciated... but Fusion based presets are just perhaps not what the Feature Request is about.

Wait a second, this is how the thread ends? John offers a brilliant solution to a glaring oversight and we just move on? Understandably it'd be nice to have these features built in but still that sounds like something I'd be willing to futz with to get these features. I for one, think your contribution is valuable! But the link to the code is broken. Is it still out there? I'd love to give it a shot.

Hello again!

What John Holt offered is great and I'm sure we thank him about that, but it's not the solution and it's another subject to be solved if it would be built in.

I would like that someone from Resolve development staff could see this post. Resolve Studio 18.1.1 is awesome, but this is a must! Any recommendations for making this possible?

As for now, I created the following workaround:

If you have your clip attributes saved to a adjustement clip, sitting in a power bin, you can do:

1. drag that adjustment clip to the timeline
2. select it and Ctrl+C
3. select the desired clip and Alt+V
4. delete the track with the adjustment clip

It is a bit cumbersome but still faster than typing in numbers every time.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing everytime I edit. In fact, what I have is a custom sequence with custom marks for every preset y have in clips just for copying and pasting it fast via Ctrl+C - Ctrl+V.

But that's not a solution. Still crossing fingers hoping that someone who work at development team take this into account.

I'm switching from Vegas Pro to DaVinci and the lack of the ability to make presets and entire preset packs for video and audio clips surprised me greatly. It would seem that this is a basic function that should be in any editor, but for some reason it is not in Resolve. An extremely strange solution, yes, you can save settings using the Adjustment Clip, but these are literally bypass crutches, in Vegas Pro, just like in Premier Pro, you can save both individual presets for plugins and entire chains of plugins, both from Video and with Audio. Quick work with audio for me personally becomes impossible in Resolve, precisely because of the lack of the ability to save entire chains of already configured sound plug-ins, and in the same Vegas Pro I have dozens of them for different scenarios, ranging from voice to sound design of certain sounds. I hasten to get ahead of the members of the forum, I know that there is a library of presets on the Fairlight page, BUT! In it, you can save presets exclusively for WHOLE TRACKS with audio! Maybe for some it's a good option, but for me it's crazy! I mount big releases, movies, and every time I re-throw whole chains of plug-ins and set them up for each individual audio clip - this is a huge waste of time. On the example of Vegas Pro - you put chains of plug-ins on an audio or video clip and save them into a single preset, which you can then apply in any project to the whole track and to individual clips and also to the master bus, as many as three options that save a lot of time when installing already routine projects! In no way do I want to offend anyone, I really like Resolve, but the lack of such basic things as saving presets just kills me :( I really hope that the developers will hear us and do something similar or alternative to save presets and entire preset chains, so definitely +1 from me. Thank you for your attention!

Hi, I am here for the same reason. +1! Editing video for nearly twenty years on different systems I am surprised that there is no option for custom clip attributes and FX presets in DaVinci Resolve. I cannot even apply my own OFX plugin presets from the past. I think this is a must-have feature in a professional workflow. I believe there is a solution to using the Fusion page and creating all these things by nodes, but for example, I can do an instant moving photo gallery in the Edit page with some inspector tweaks and essential plugins. Then distribute the settings by copying and pasting attributes to all images. So I would like to store these settings and drag and drop them in the next project such as user transition presets.

Thank you for your attention.
