Add Crawl Preset please

PostThu Jan 28, 2021 5:06 pm

My problem is described here and it was not solved. I still need Edius or Premiere to do it.
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=132574

Please add preset for Text Crawl: long (very long!) horisontal line that moves from right to left.
Now it cannot be relised in Da Vinci. Only short lines with few sentences can be made using title with keyframes.
P.S. This is text for deaf people. It can be 60 or 90 minutes long. I need to simple copy/paste it in title and it will move form right to left.

A Crawl title preset is not a bad idea.

(That said, Captions is the normal solution for folks with hearing issues.)
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Dear friends, are there any news on this question?
Crawl Line with long text is very useful thing, please add it.
Or may be it is already done?

It is still pretty easy to do in the Fusion page. But 60-90 minutes worth of scrolling for deaf people?
Is that the most common way to do CC for them? I thought 'regular' subtitles were the way to go in cases like that. I can't imagine following a scrolling text for 90 minutes and then being able to see anything of the rest of the video.

But if that's what you need, then that's what you need to do.
I did notice that in the original post you're referring to, the text was center aligned instead of left aligned, so maybe that accounted for not being able to completly move everything over.

How do Edius and/or Premiere handle this?

Making a creeping line is a requirement of our local law. The text spoken by the speaker should be visible at the bottom. That's why it is SO LONG (all time of documental film).

This is an example of what I mean made in Premiere Pro

Thus, I have constant suffering. I make a video in DaVinci and then add a creeping line in Premiere.

It is very easy to do it in Premiere. Just copy-paste long text and choose Crawl Left option:

Edius also has this simple thing.

I had a quick go in Fusion however I found it to be un-usably slow. When pasting in enough text for a few minutes of scroll it took Fusion a couple of minutes before it even displayed the first frame. Hitting play on that gave me "101.7 seconds / frame". Hmm.

The Text+ appears to to fall over hard when there's more than a certain amount of text.

Resolve's Title works fine for large amounts of text, showing no performance problems. But as Denis found, it can't be animated beyond a position of -7680. And unlike Text+, there's no way to animate the H Anchor.

I guess maybe it'd be possible to write a script for Fusion to pass in the text in small chunks, so the Text+ didn't have to hold it all at once. But that's getting a bit complicated.

Thank you, dear, for reply.
Inside Titles there is Scroll preset. But it moves only in vertical direction.
It CAN work with huge amounts of text.
So horizontal scrolling can be made on its base. Developers can just add option to move horizontal, not only vertical. That's what I need.

Yeah, that's a variant of the Resolve Title rather than the Fusion one. So it's same as the "Text" effect, just it auto scrolls.

But yes they certainly could add a horizontally scrolling option for that.

We all realise what you want and need, it's just that we're trying to help you to get it done in Resolve as it is right now.

The quickest way to do this is to split it up in batches of a couple of minutes and just link all of those together with off-sets. It will take a bit more time to set up than in Edius or Premiere, but it shouldn't take more than about 10 minutes to setup probably.

Hello.

I take it everyone has activated the scroll, roll and crawl menu as this is built in?

Hi

This is built into Resolve Text+

On the layout page change point to frame and a new set of controls will appear on the controls page. You can then roll or crawl the text either by keyframing the scroll position screw control or add an expression. 1-(time/comp.RenderEnd)

It doesn't like huge lines of text but i just used render in place to test 2500 words.

Hope that helps.

PS. We could pull in the text from an external source to overcome the limitations of the Text+?

I made a very basic Horizontal Scroll Text template in fusion. Text+ is very slow with long text as TheBloke pointed out, so I used a Text3D node instead.

Download the .setting file here and put it to the appropriate folder

Ahhh so Text3D performs better? I didn't think to try that. Good work!

I tried it with a piece of text of 2,684 words, 15,171 characters. Fusion Studio chugged away for a minute or so when I first tried to view the node, but after that it did scroll OK, playing back at 10 FPS.

So the OP could drag this to the appropriate folder to make it available on Edit, and it should do the job. Very nice.

You can do this in real-time using Text+. Just add an Auto Domain node after the Text+ node so it doesn't have to render the giant text image that's outside the frame. Then do the scrolling with a Transform or Crop node.

For small texts like the one linked in the original post it's very quick. I also made a test on a 90-minute timeline and added text until it scrolled at a "normal" pace. That took about 16000 characters. After pasting it in it took a few minutes where Fusion was unresponsive, but after that it's playing in real-time. All disk caching was switched off.

Edit: It's not surprising I guess, but rendering to disk causes the initial slowdown again, possibly on each frame, I didn't have the patience to check. A proper caching setup or a single frame render of the text should take care of it.

Edit2: Adding a Time Stretcher node between the Text+ node and the Auto Domain node solves the rendering issue. It's rendering at 41 fps now.

Thank U, it works! But it exports to final file for very long time. 30 minutes instead of 6 minutes as usual. Video length is 12 minutes.
Vertical scroll doesnt have such problem, so I have a dream developers will implement horisontal scrolling in existing Scroll Title.

I read that this request has been implemented in a new version. Please tell me where exactly. Low bow.
