Please add a de-reverb effect in Fairlight

PostSat May 08, 2021 11:00 pm

Can you please add a de-reverb effect in Fairlight?

I have RX-7, but this is one of the effects that really slows down the application.

Thank you!

You might find this realtime plug-in useful. It's one I use myself.

I'm not a fan of plug-ins, so I vote yes for having these effects built right in.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Jim, you say you don't like plug-ins, but having it as a native effect it would still be a plug-in as are all the native Fairlight FX.

The De-Verb feature in iZotope RX is effective to a point. I think it's fair to say that the best plug-ins out there have to be purchased separately -- there's only so much they can throw in for free to a $299 program like Resolve Studio.

This is probably the best one, but you can see that it doesn't come cheap.

I would say that de-reverb is a rather specialized tool, although one often needed in post.

There are a lot of alternatives out there, we use several (Zynaptiq, SPL, Izotope, others).

As long as a Fairlight specific one brings something new to the table (because for restoration, I find that one algorithm may be perfect on one source, but doesn't work at all on another, you really need several to choose between), it seems like a reasonable idea.

De-reverb is not an easy thing to do.

Yes, Unveil is in a class by itself... but even more costly than the basic iZotope RX, which has a lot more NR and dialogue-improvement features.
