Hi,
It would be very nice to delete unwanted files directly from resolve, like with other software. Can you implement?

I would advocate the exact opposite. An NLE should have NO ability to delete files it did not create.

File management should always be done with a proper File Manager.

I agree. Especially with an hotkey this get's really dangerous

This has been discussed at great length before on this forum. The general consensus is that while convenient, this is generally a very bad idea.

Not if your media is on a network volume, as is the case with many professional editors and colorists who work off of a NAS.

+1 I would use this feature a lot, due to the nature of my workflow.

Adding the function to the menu without assigning a default keybaord shortcut will be the trick, then anyone who really needs it, they can assign his own custom shortcut.

The "delete permanently" function already exists in the Media Storage. Right click and it's the last option, then delete from your hard disk. There is also a keyboard shortcut. This feature request is redundant!

I'm aware of this, instead I've a custom keyboard shortcut assigned for "Reveal in Finder" on the Media Pool panel (Mac version) This opens OSX finder, then I delete the file from there. Which is quite fast.

For me it would help me to remove from disk directly from the timeline clip menu. But I'm aware how risky would be to set this command on the clip menu for many users.

There are very good reasons why no editing software allows a disk deletion directly from the timeline.

I agree 100% with Jim. I think this is very, very dangerous. Longtime Resolve users will remember that we used to be able to delete source files on the drive with a command on the Media Page, and I went into shock the first (and only) time I did this, years ago.

To me, the right way to manage media is to sort the on the Media page files by Usage, delete the ones from the bin that aren't being used in the project, and then Media Manage to copy only the used files to a new drive (or a new folder, your choice). Once you're sure it's working, then you can get rid of the unused files from the actual drive using delete in the operating system.

But it doesn't work in the edit tab when i click a clip on the timeline or in the media list... how to activate it? must be duoble secured haha

The media in a media pool is a representation of a source clip - it may point to one file or multiple files and can be accorded custom properties that the file does not have. The files can be unlinked, or relinked to a different file from the context menu, or revealed in the Finder or media storage.

An edit in a timeline keeps a similar link to the media pool clip used to create the edit. You can find this media pool link from the context menu and change the link using conform workflows.

Note that the same media storage file/files can be imported as two (or fifteen) different media (and be accorded different properties); the same media can be edited in twice (or fifteen times) with different durations, color, effects etc.

In the edit page, using the 'Find in Media Pool' and 'Reveal in Finder' context actions is the quickest way for you to find the underlying file to delete - or move to Trash - or rename as a backup, depending on your workflow.

Yes I discovered this option as only option so far, that's why i started this thread. It would be great if at least reveal in finder would be in the same edit context menu and preferably delete permanently too.

Now THIS is something I agree with. "Reveal in Finder" is a glaring omission from the Timeline clip contextual menu.

I would LOVE this feature as I'm often left with 100s of unused clips to delete individually after a project. Resolve is so good for selecting and marking the clips that I want but then terrible for getting rid of the clips I don't want. I'd like to be able to put them all in a bin and then permanently delete that bin. I get that some are worried about accidentally doing it but in reality if it's a few step process to make is safe then there's really nothing to worry about. This would save me untold hours as it's currently a 7 click process for each clip even with the hotkeys set up. If I could select all clips in my unused bin at once and then click "reveal in media storage" and if revealed all of them at once so I could do a batch delete it would be awesome!
