CST, add Panasonic V Log L

The CST effect has Panasonic V Log as an option.
Some Panasonic Cameras use V Log L, which is slightly different.
Very popular camera's, like the GH5 and GH5S use V log L.

When I apply V Log to my V Log L footage, it becomes reddish and oversaturated.

If possible, please include Panasonic V Log L as an option

Thanks :)

Redish and oversaturated? I don’t think that’s possible with a gamma difference you might be picking the wrong colorspace in the CST.

Nonetheless it wouldn’t hurt to have it but I can’t find any white paper on either V-Log or V-Log L so it’s something they’ll have to chase Panasonic for before they know the formula.

I have GH5 and GH5S and shoot VlogL with both. I use Color Management with wide Gamut and just right click file in media page and select Panasonic Vlog for the input color space. Works great. Solves the problem I would normally get with the GH5's of having difficulty correctly reproducing deep reds in other picture profiles.

If I just do not use color management but select in color page it still works. I find using Color Management a better work flow.

The difference I believe between Vlog and VlogL is the dynamic range. Gamut is the same I think. Anyway it works fine for me.

I am definetly doing something wrong then. I'll check next time I'm in Resolve. Thanks for the replies.

According to Panasonic V-Log L (Light) is a less 'compressed' log curve designed for the sensors with more limited dynamic range and their limited recording capabilities of 8bit instead of 10bit to fit the data more efficiently across the bits to mitigate banding.

It might be that in Color Management the already implemented V-Log 'works' but could be over contrasty on V-Log L and needs further adjustments to make it match so not a perfect technical transform in that regard.

I think that the shadows and mid tones of VLog and VLog L are the same with the same gamma. The main difference is dynamic range of the product. So I believe shadows and midtones will be the same. Clearly there will be difference between 8 bit and 10 bit depending on what is being done to the clip. How the scene is exposed is also important. Generally about a stop or so over that for other picture profiles on the GH. My shift was purely to solve the colour RED and going to VLog solves that for me. I do not push the grade at all minor levels only. For this 8bit internal seems fine. For anything important I record 10 bit to my Ninja V.

May want to look at this.

I thought the gh5 and gh5s could record in 10 bit internally?

I record at UHD 60P and you can only do that externally.
