kudos to BM, but still...no clip duration

PostFri Jan 14, 2022 4:37 pm

Kudos to BM, as of version 17.4.3 all blue line renders and play all frames are persistent across saves and duplicated timelines on my system. Thank you.

But, what can I do to persuade everyone about the necessity of having the duration of the clip shown beside the name in the timeline.

It is not something required only by obsessive compulsive editors, it is a productivity tool in a frame accurate editing environment, which allows minute corrections in rhythm with a glance...

In order to check durations, I am obliged to place the playhead on a clip and press the shortcut for mark clip so I can see the duration on the right side above the viewer, couldn't there be a simple option to show when and if needed these few numbers on the clip in the timeline...Please.

Well... you do have Duration in the upper left of the Source window on the edit page. Current playhead position is on the upper right. Duration is also shown in the Info pallet on the Color page. Or am I missing something? You can leave the Info pallet up all the time if you want to.

Let's suppose I have three clips one on top of the other and I want them to have a difference of 10 frames at the end I can see that with a glance and fix it. Or if I have several clips that are supposed to be one second each I can see that without any action at all. Or, which is currently the case, have this intricate edit of shots over a narration that I feel is kind of cramped and I want to lengthen some clips porportionally, being able to see the durations as a whole would be very helpful. I'm sure they're probably are more effective ways to do all that and I can probably find more usage case scenarios but it's been a long Saturday, thanks for your comment.

I've absolutely no interest, personally, in seeing instance duration displayed on every element in the timeline, but I believe it could and should be a column display option in the Edit Index. It absolutely belongs there but is sadly missing.
Let's have a return to the glory days, when press releases for new versions included text like "...with over 300 new features and improvements that professional editors and colorists have asked for."
