New Problem That Needs Addressing

PostTue Jan 18, 2022 10:02 pm

Now there is a new wrinkle with 17.4.3!

And it needs to be addressed immediately.

When saving a project, or when a project crashes, the timeline multiplies by 5X~ the number of timelines that exist in the project.

To be more specific, we are working on a project that started a year ago, and it has 10 timelines in its current version. (Project named: YouTube_Episode1_MINI_CONSTRUCTION_GUY)

Upon saving or when the program crashes, we reenter DR, and find that the project now has 50 timelines according to the Project Manager...and the project will not open.

So we go into another project that has not grown, launch that project, and may be able to get into the project that has grown the 5X multiple.

If that doesn't work, we then try to open the project in READ ONLY MODE and then resave it. The project then indicates that there are 50 timelines, which is incorrect, but at least we're are able to continue with the project...until the next time we go to edit the project.

Upon saving the project, we go back into the Project Manager, and it indicates that we have the correct number of timelines (10).

But the next time we close DR, and reattempt to open a project, it shows 50 timelines.

If we do not go through this tedious procedure, we are not able to access this project, and now others.

That is a feature that needs to be taken care of.

Attached are shots of the project manager indicating this.

I don't see other reports of this issue.. is this disk database on a permanently attached SSD or hard disk?
What type?

Do you see the issue with your other disk database?
where is that stored?

If you archive the project when it shows 50 timelines, then restore the archive, how many timelines are shown then?

ANSWER: The database is on a SanDisk SDSSDHE SSD 2TB

Do you see the issue with your other disk database?

ANSWER: NO!

where is that stored? N/A

If you archive the project when it shows 50 timelines, then restore the archive, how many timelines are shown then?

ANSWER: We export the projects to an external 5TB HD, and when we retrieve it, it has 50 timelines. We don't archive our projects, just export them. We also save our projects under different titles to keep a chronological progression so that we can revert in the event of a crash or error in editing or lost media.

We also back up the database every day. But have never attempted to restore a database backup for fear of trashing our projects.

The only way we can get get a project back to the original 10 timelines, is by opening the project in READ-ONLY mode, and then saving it.

As long as we do not exit DR, we are able to maintain the 10 timelines, but if we exit DR, and reenter DR, the situation comes back. And it does not only happen on this project, but others, and it doesn't matter what the complexity of the project is, or its size.

It usually requires that we open another project that does not have this condition for the desired project just to open in Read-Only mode. (And usually requiring closing and relaunching DR several times...as many as ten times.)

These problems have persisted since upgrading from 17.3.1...we had horrible problems with just DR in 17.4.2. Couldn't even get it to open. So we revert to 17.3.1, until now using 17.4.3.

Hope this helps.

We like the feature of the program, but the frustration and anxiety of losing our work is very taxing.

Databases aren't meant to be stored on external drives like this, it's a recipe for disaster. You should move everything to your internal drive.

This database is stored on an internal secondary SSD...it's not an HD.
