Better Drag&Drop support on timeline!!!

PostSun Jan 30, 2022 5:09 pm

Please implement a BETTER Drag&Drop where you can CANCEL your dragging and it returns to the previous state.

Now as soon as you drag something into something else, you cut into it and can't cancel the drop. You have to drop the clip and then undo the move.

This is NOT practical.

Please fix it for ver 18!

What are you on about? If I drag one clip into another I see it overlapping, and it I don't want this I drag away and it doesn't overlap. And then if I happen to accidentally release the mouse button I just hit undo. So what's the problem exactly?

In every OS, proper drag & drop does NOT drop until you release the mouse key!! And if you hit the ESCAPE key, the drag&drop is cancelled and nothing happens.

In Resolve, you cannot cancel a drag&drop operation! You drag and if you want to cancel, you have to manually drag back the clip to it's position or some other random location.

This is a really poor implementation of the drag&drop behavior.

Check Vegas for a proper example of drag&drop.

Joe's point (and he's not wrong) is that hitting the 'Escape' key during a drag and drop doesn't cancel the action... it works that way at the OS level and it works that way in other applications, but not in Resolve.

It's not a high priority necessity, but it would certainly be nice if 'Escape' to cancel were implemented.

FYI 'Escape' to cancel (drag and drop) works Media Pool to Timeline and Timeline to Timeline ... it just doesn't work when dragging solely within the active timeline.

Yep. I think it is an easy fix.
