Better Workspace Suited For Vertical Videos

PostSat Nov 12, 2022 1:48 pm

It would make sense if Edit Page of Resolve align it's workspace
in a way that is better suited to edit portrait/vertical videos.
(When you check on use vertical resolution) in Timeline settings.

Currently you have to edit them the same way you edit landscape resolutions.
Which wastes usable space on both sides of vertical video.

You can resize the viewers to allow more room for Media Pool and Inspector.

And we can save Workspace presets.

Did you have something more in mind?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Well, all the GUI structure deserves an update adapted to the new multiple standards.

Those new standards are:
- Editing on tablets (specially since the iPad version of DVR).
- Ultra-wide displays to reduce the amount of multiple displays on each colorist office.
- As you said: vertical videos for vertical monitor setup, so optimization of the GUI for vertical monitors.

On the forum there are tons of request for the GUI, which will be more than welcomed.
- MBP 14" M1 Pro 16GB, 1TB, 10 core CPU, 16 core GPU.
- Resolve Studio 18.6.4 @ macOS 13.6.2
- Mini Panel v2.0
- Speed Editor (gathering dust until killer custom keys arrive)
- Synology DS218

I posted this request elsewhere but this is something else you could do with vertical videos. Not making the thumbnail you are dragging into the timeline so huge. It just needs to be tiny. this is on a laptop.

Just registered to post this. So much needed. Also needed flexibility in workspace module arrangement. Something that can be improved upon Premiere Pro.

Moving the monitor window entirely to the right (or left?) would make editing 9:16 videos much easier.

I am sure we will see this soon, go Blackmagic!!!

I'am sure it is really really easy for @Peter chambernain and friends to create just like this.
 At least Vertical workspace for 1 screen.

Correct me if i'm wrong, i always use pexels.com to download free footage. But today, most of videos in pexels.com are portrait/vertical.

Hi andy, i don't know. I just mockup workspace from another video editor, and they do well where 'inspector' or 'clip control' or 'effect control' should be located :D
