FR: Want to filter by all clip fields in the edit index

PostMon Jun 05, 2023 8:30 pm

I'd like to filter by all clip fields when using the edit index.
Right now I'm wanting to do a find on the filename extension.
I could easily see wanting to search on a folder in the file path.
Sure looks like I can't do this. Is there some reason or is it just not implemented?

Its the first option in the list for me, Joe... no idea why it defaults to filter by index # though instead. Its obviously limited to only filtering by the data actually displayed/displayable in the index panel though.

I did switch to All Fields. "All Fields" seems to mean all the ones listed in the dropdown - which is a far cry from all the fields in a clip.

I agree. The Index panel is too rooted to the EDL format from which it was born. I'd also like to be able to display and filter by *any* associated clip info. I'd also wish that when I export my index it exported only the currently displayed fields (in the order displayed). I also wish I could 'sort' as well as filter. And (multi) select in the timeline via the Index window... so many productivity boosting things I wish the Index could do.

Here's a prime example of how the fancy, quite complex Edit Index is far from a substitute for a simple Find command across the timeline:

General issue aside, Joe, for the specific issue you are currently facing you could choose the Project Settings >> General Options >> Assist using reel names from the: Source clip filename option. This would ensure that the source file name is searchable in the Edit Index using the Reel metadata.
