Collapsable and groupable audio and video tracks using an expander arrow on edit page.
I worked years ago on a feature film in Vegas Pro 14 and I loved how organized I could be by being able to create lots of track groups. I could collapse and uncollapse (sort of hiding) the grouped tracks.
Just check out how smart it is in Vegas Pro and you will have no more questions.
- Also the ability to lock a minimized view optionally for selected tacks would be nice.
So my suggestion is to have 2 main view options> 1. Video and audio with no grouping, 2. With one click you create a new Group View Preset, where you can create groups no matter the order of the tacks.
It means you can create multiple View Presets for the same timeline where for Each Group View Preset you can create multiple groups for the same available tracks.
Yes, you can collapse and expand one by one the groups in my idea. I did not say "One button to hide or dis-hide them all".
I said One button to switch between the default view that can be seen now with the video and audio tracks stacked and separated or One of the user generated Group View Preset for the given timeline. a user could create multiple View Presets for the same timeline.
When a View Preset mode is selected the order of the tracks changed but not the order number of them, so you get the order number you create when you are not using any of the Group View Presets.

Love this idea-- would be better than using the compound and decompose in place to basically do this without having to add in those clips to bins. Especially love this for audio tracks so that timeline can be neater.
+ maybe optionally 2 kinds of view: the user created groups where audio and video tracks can be stacked in whatever order the user wants to organize them, or the view that can be seen now already in DaVinci and Premiere, where video and audio tracks are in 2 different fields on top of each other.
Yes please! Collapsable folder tracks would be excellent for cleaning up audio in timelines, while retaining flexibility to edit on the macro and micro level within one timeline.
This could also be worked into a more intuitive workflow for audio routing / bussing, similar to how routing folder tracks work in DAWs. But one step at a time...

I used to use lots of groups a lot when I had like 600 audio tracks at a project. It is fast end easy to see what's on the timeline and where.
In any Group View Presets you get the same order >only by their number< of the tracks theoretically but you VIEW them in a different order and optionally in groups. So when the original view #1 mentioned simple view mode, what can be seen now is selected and NOT any of the Group View Presets, then the tracks are stacked in their >by number< original order, with the same numbers.
+1 Would make Davinci so much better for big projects! It would be awesome if you could for example stack all the voices in one and all the music mixing to another and all the sound effects to a third so that you can just focus on one aspect of audio.
+1 Has this really not been added yet? I'm surprised. I only have one monitor and the timeline has to be minimized to like 10% just so I can see everything. This is something every DAW has and I feel like a lot of NLEs do too. Would love to see this please!
