Render in Place should not ask every time for location.

Render in Place should not ask every time for location.

There could be a path I select in the Settings as default Render in Place files location. Then when I hit Render in Place there would be a checkbox to "Use default location", so it only asks the user where to save if this is not checked.

Would it make sense to have it set at the project level? The Render in Place path option could be placed in with the cache, optimised media and proxy media paths in Master Settings.

Follow-up question, what's the point of optimised media? What does it do that Render in Place and Proxies don't? (I'm sure there's a use case I'm missing, so more than happy to be corrected).

Maybe if you recorded using a format like X AVC L it's recommended to convert it into a more NLE friendly intra frame codec before editing. Resolve had issues and playback lags with long 1h+ X AVC L files, so I usually had to convert them into some other intra lossless format. X AVC L is an interframe codec and it's hard to process.

I have a similar FR here, complementing this one :

viewtopic.php?f=33&t=177353

"When we render in place on the Edit page, I would like to have the settings stay when the project is opened again. I think there are many things that always reset to default when Resolve is closed, it's annoying"

I can see a small problem if it doesn't ask where to render the video.

Maybe have a "don't ask again for this session" button would help? Then it would act like now, and if needed, someone can click this button and not being asked the next time they render in place (with the ability to reverse it)

Because sometimes you set a default location to save something, you forget about it, and you start to fill a folder you forgot to change (it happens to me very often with screenshots taken on windows then, I save them, and forget that the last location used is not the desktop)

I agree that we should be able to use a default pref locaton for Render-in-Place files.

...and to answer someone's question about Optimized Media, I had a very specific scenario a while back in which that was my only choice compared to the other two. When rendering, there's an option to use render cached media, Proxies, or Optimized media. In my case, my Proxies were low bandwidth, so no go there, and my timeline resolution was smaller than my source, requiring me to create another timeline to use Render in Place or Render Cache, so no go there as well. The last option was Optimized media, which helped me to process some intensive effects at source resolution and then use THAT in my final render without having to change other settings in my timeline. But yes, it does seem redundant for the most part.

And it should remember based on timeline the last used settings, even after I restart DaVinci.

+ Resolve should remember based on the given timeline in the given project which settings were used last time on that timeline, so I don't have to reselect every time these settings when I restart Resolve and open the project.

+1, but I think a solution would be to add a option at the bottom of the Render in Place dialog that asks if you want to use a new folder, the default folder (which could be in prefs), or previous folder.
