overlay power window and mattes intensity for HDR grading

PostWed Oct 25, 2023 12:40 pm

At the office, we always work in YRGB non managed, because that is how we work, changing to managed is not an option. (we manage our own pipeline in collaboration with external companies.

if you're doing HDR and you draw a power window, that white is technically 10000 nits, so I blind everyone in the room, including myself.

request: in the [preference - user - color] where you have [High visibility power window outline], add a box where you put [intensity] with a number from [0 to 100]. 100 is full white where is now and you can drop that to (for example) 10% that is only few nits in PQ.

Matte, same issue: if you use [mattes display high contrast black and white], it's really blinding. the same [intensity] box will serve the same function.

even if you dont use BW mattes you have the same issue: gray is 100 nits in HDR, blinding. AND if you use 3d mattte it still shows black and white.

- ADDITIONAL. I know I asked for this before, and i know other asked, it's 5 am, I have insomnia, i'm grumpy, and I dont want to search the forum.

very good request. RCM and ACES both take matte display into account. BMD, please find a way to adjust it in unmanaged projects aswell.

100% agree. A lot of stuff is way, way too bright in the UI. I don't like the intensity of the matte-level display in the Qualification panel, either -- it's 50% brighter than it needs to be.
