Recently bought the Studio version of DaVinci. Been an FCP 7/X user since 2008. It is my experience that the cut page and the edit page should merge as well as their features.
Even if I'm dreaming and they don't ever merge, the main issues I have with the cut/edit pages are:
No zoomable timeline - I'm guessing this could be due to FCP magnetic timeline patent reasons? Maybe, maybe not. Still we need to be able to zoom out and see what we're doing - not just have an overview window of our timeline.
The area for the video/audio tracks are stuck (aligned) at the bottom. I believe it would be much better if we could move it up/down, or at the very least have an option so that it aligns in the center of the available timeline space. Much rather see the clips closer to the viewer rather than fumbling at the bottom of my screen triggering the macos dock at random times.
A permanent 'Ripple on' button should to be an option in the edit page, not just the cut page. I want the default action to be ripple not overwrite.
Gaps need to make it into the edit page. And they could be improved in the cut page. If I want to have several small edits in a timeline in the edit page and I want to separate them by 5 second gaps, it's a very manual process for the time being. I need to be able to select all the gaps and resize them at the same time (not just 'delete all gaps' which is also great). Right now this is not possible in either page.
