Task / Resource Manager

PostTue Oct 31, 2023 5:09 pm

It seems like a really high percentage of Resolve issues boil down to, "Why is Resolve so slow all of a sudden?" We don't have any tools to answer this so it's always a guessing game: "Are you using proxies? Have you emptied your cache? What version is your GPU driver?" These are all uneducated guesses that while they could be the issue, are basically just an unofficial checklist.

What about creating an in-program task manager? Resolve is caching a fusion effect on timeline 27 and using half of the system resources. OK, that is the issue. Now I know so I can fix it. Cache is full? OK, now we know. Yes, we can take the time to check every timeline and go through the checklist...but that's a task for a computer to perform.

I'm not sure whether the code is there to easily create this or not. I wouldn't think it would be a resource hog itself as this is constantly going on with the OS. It would just be so helpful for everybody (including the devs who are surely bogged down with this repeated question) to be able to look at a resource meter and at least know what's going on.
