cant record audio without adding a media file

PostWed Nov 01, 2023 5:37 pm

can you please make so when you open resolve and go to the audio editing tab we can make a audio track without needling to first add a piece of media???

if i want to get on resolve and record a voice over or record or a guitar track its not possible without first adding a medial file first. if i fire up resolve and just head over to the audio tab its blank, there are no audio tracks, if i right click where the audio tracks should be to add a audio track nothing happens, it does not allow you to add one as far as i can tell.

it seems that my only option is to dig up a audio or video file on my pc and drag that file onto the timeline, this will add a audio tracks to resolve, now i have to delete that video or audio file from the timeline. After all of that and wasting a bunch of time i finally have a blank audio track and i can arm and to record my voice over or guitar track. i'm not sure why i just can't right click and add a new audio track and make a blank track without first adding and than deleting media that i am not even going to use first.

can you please make so when you open resolve and go to the audio editing tab we can make a audio track without needling to first add a piece of media??? of if there is already a way to do this please let me kow..

Thank you. and this screen shot shows the blank audio editing section..

File menu > New Timeline

A Project should contain at least one Timeline, there is no need to add media prior to recording.
Fairlight Studio Console 3 Bay • Merging Hapi • Anubis • Merging Premium VAD (3.4.0) ↔︎ Lawo VSC (1.0.0)
Mac Pro 7,1 Rack • Resolve Studio 19.1.3 • macOS 14.7.3 (23H417) ➩ 11" iPad Pro (M4) 1TB • iPadOS 18.3 (22D63)

Thanks, This works great so i appreciate the reply, however i feel that the timeline should just be there in the first place, resolve is not the most user friendly editor, it seems like there are often a few or a bunch of extra steps or thing that you would never figure out with asking or having someone show you first. over all fairlight is much easier to use than other DAW's but thing like having to do this might deter people, i know a lot of people who have gone back to their lousy basic editor because they said resolve is not user-friendly and super simple things on other editores have a bunch of extra steps on resolve (and i feel they are correct sometimes) it has a huge learning curve

i was trying to find a user manual on the black magic website, i have tried to find it there a few time and i cant find it.. i hear it's like 4000 pages anyways so that might make it hard to impossible to find the answer anyways.

but it would be nice of some basic things like this were just setup and ready to go without having to click a series of thigs (maybe there is a reason its like this not sure) but it feels like extra steps we should not need to do to me. i mean its super easy but im guessing most people would not figure this out easily.

i'm not sure if they could just make so the timelike is already there, but that would be awesome if they could

It is worth keeping in mind that a Project is simply a container of multiple Timelines.

The advantage of a blank Project is that Fairlight Timelines may be created with specific configurations.

Fairlight Configuration Presets may be saved via the Fairlight menu > Presets Library

Fairlight Configuration Presets contain all Timeline preferences (e.g. Audio Tracks, Track Heights, Track Colour, Track Naming, complete Routing for all Tracks, Buss assigns, as well as assignment to any VCAs and Track Groups - aka Edit/Mix Groups).

Configuration Presets may be recalled within the "Create New Timeline" window by enabling the "Use Fairlight Preset" option.

The standard workflow here for all Projects is to recall the relevant Configuration Preset and automatically format a new Timeline with the appropriate configuration including Track names, routing, and assignments.

Fairlight Configuration Presets are stored with the system and are accessible across Databases, Projects, and Timelines.

Presets are available on all my systems for ADR, score recording sessions, editing, and mixing. With a baseline in place this ensures any session can start immediately regardless of which system is booted.

i was trying to find a user manual on the black magic website
The most current version of the DaVinci Resolve Reference Manual is always available from the support page: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/suppor ... and-fusion

The most current version of the manual may also be accessed from the Help menu within Resolve.
