We need this please! As I work on a laptop, without having an extra screen, the preview window is so small. This setup would optimize the real estate that is left.

For your information, vertical worskspace is not BMD Priority in Resolve, and this vertilcal workspace will not ever exist in this app :D

Don't ever underestimate the BMD Dev Team. They read pretty much every message on the forum and they do listen, even if the changes aren't made instantly. I'm not a fan of Vertical videos -- at all -- but I concede that social media isn't going away, and maybe there's a way for DaVinci Resolve to better-integrate vertical framing into their workflow.

So don't ever say never.

It doesn't need to go away, it just needs a little code tweak to automatically rotate all videos on a phone. ;)

I agree with what you said Jim. But unfortunately all social media refuse to add rotation feature for horizontal videos, even though they can add it easily with just 1 line of code. Only youtube is willing to provide rotation feature for mobile users. And all clients want vertical videos for their promotions on social media.

It's a bit like vertical screens (and many other more exotics format) exists out there for decades.

But we still read stuff like "I vote no"

+1 for a workspace for "vertical" videos.

But it doesn't have to be just for vertical videos, just be more "flexible" os it can adapts to the user's needs of the moment.

Some people are only focus on the finger lol. Even if social media didn't exists, there would still be a need for this kind of stuff.

Would love to see this - it's pretty common now to have to deliver vertical versions alongside other aspect ratios. Even if it's a widescreen film, it'll still have teasers/vertical content for social media.

Some flexibility in positioning/sizing the viewer to accommodate this would be such a game changer for many people. The example okiewardoyo provided seems like a great solution too.

Funny thing is, that configuration will also make the ultrawide monitors more interesting to use in editing

Big +1 !!

in general, Resolve needs some "instagram love". Yes-- I realize the primary customer base is bigger-budget, "more serious" video projects ... but as you all are noting here even big-budget landscape content will be promoted with social-media-friendly portrait content.

While we're on the subject of instagram love... not only the portrait previewer but...
- improved AI to detect the subject-in-motion for auto-reframing (will help upsell Studio!)
- improved speed ramping (big social feature)

Seems likely that Capcut will be a share-taker because they do these things well. C'mon BMD!
