Adjustment Clips with Native Resolution Option

PostWed Jun 18, 2025 3:02 pm

Hi! I’d like to suggest a feature that could really help when working with high-res media in lower-res timelines.

I usually work with 4K talking head shots in a 1080p timeline. Sometimes I use an Adjustment Clip to apply a constant zoom during a Smooth Cut. The problem is that the zoom is applied based on the 1080p timeline resolution, so the image starts getting blurry or pixelated, even though the original clip is 4K and should handle the zoom easily.

Suggestion:

It would be great to have an option like:
“Use Native Resolution”
…in the Adjustment Clip settings, so effects like zoom/scaling take into account the resolution of the underlying media instead of the timeline.

Or maybe any workaround/tool that helps preserve original resolution when doing timeline effects on top of high-res clips.

Would love to hear if others have the same need or a better workaround!

I wrote about a workflow that helps in a lot of ways here:

But fundamentally lean on working at the Native Resolution of your Media (4K) and build your timeline to that spec too. Then use the Output Resolution tab of the timeline to scale things down to 1080p for the output. This way all effects, titles, multicams and later crops, are working from the full 4K media.

It is harder on the machine however. so that is the ultimate caveat. But with a combination of proxy media you can get around this limitation too and keep performance good.
