- +1 for colorspace aware tools
- Mono DPX export
- Sat vs Lum curve
- More/better HDR tools including something like Baselight's Texture Management

Technically a Fusion request, but the entire 3D system in Fusion needs a ground-up re-write. It's not even just one thing, but a whole host of things that have Fusion so far behind industry standards that aspects are starting to be irrelevant. It's not that you can't do amazing things with the tools that are there, but at a certain point getting anyone who is used to modern tools to learn how to work with Fusion's tools is a losing battle.

Indicators are things like only being able to cast shadows with spotlights. No global illumination. No ray tracing. Lack of accurate refraction/transparency/reflections. No meaningful grouping and parenting tools.

Fusion's text tools, both 3D and 2D, are also years behind. No kerning and layout controls. No per-character animation and settings. The 3D extrusion and beveling is even kind of janky.

Maybe the math doesn't work in a way that a curve would actually be useful/possible, but it would be interesting to be able to use a curve to make colors become darker the more saturated they are instead of using the HSL node/RGB mixer trick I learned about from one of Juan Malera's tutorials. It seemed to me a curve could give you finer control over the effect. But again, I'm no engineer so maybe it would be useless or not possible!

This is a general request with some specific ways I've thought of to address it.

I know the Cut page was an attempt to remove unproductive 'work' from editing. I'd love for you guys to take a crack at doing that for conform. Conform can be a lot of work that isn't actually 'useful,' per se.

Perhaps that's just making an 'open timeline' format of some sort that works between NLE's, or updating XML to a more modern format. I know that requires integration across vendors, which I imagine could be tough!

Another option is making Resolve smarter, even using the new neural engine. One specific pain point is having to fix framing/sizing - that's what takes the most amount of time for me in a conform. If a project coming from FCPX or Premiere isn't set up just so, I'm stuck matching by hand. What about having a button that gets Resolve to match sizing in the currently selected clip in the timeline to whatever is up in the Offline Reference monitor? I pitched the idea to Alexis van Hurkman at NAB today & his question was how much time would this save - I'm thinking it could easily save me a couple days every year!

Perhaps this could even be done for retiming as well, not sure.

I don’t see any new multicam features in 16 so we would like:

- multicam sequence/timeline creation
- match frame from multicam clip on timeline to viewer and than match frame to specific video clip
- ability to unflatten multicam after flattening
- “open in timeline” to place the playline on the same spot of the clip where your playline is on the working timeline
- multicam audio clip waveform improvement - a lot of crashes in 15 for us is due to multicam waveform cache to the point that we cant use waveform on multicam clips
- ability to choose which part of the clip is selected after splitting a selected clip

Here are my suggestions, things I'd like to see in the next iteration, or possibly just as a patch:

Audio Waveforms inside Fusion, so it's easier to match frames to beats/sound
Preview Fonts. Font names tell me nothing
More crazy Fusion transitions/titles out of the box. Gotta show Premiere and Fcp who's king

Room Correction.
Now Fairlight is a professional DAW
Every studio needs eq room correction.
I used REW to correct my studio adding a parametric eq to the master.
On the market there are a lot of options, for example Sonarworks.
I'd like to have embedded tools to do room correction for various audio standards: Dolby, Atmos,THX, DTS
With room correction and the right house curves we could simulate several type of speakers and rooms.

I wanted this feature in Resolve 16 but didn't get it :(

'Nearest Neighbour' Resize Filter :!:

It shouldn't be that hard to implement. It's a universal standard of image scaling and has been around basically forever... How has Blackmagic missed adding this feature?

great new version, thanks BMD for the hard work, but I have to say my one and only need apparently is addressed even in davinci 16 as annunced
• Ability to render broadcast wave files with support for metadata when exporting timelines to Pro Tools
• Improved handling of video codec defaults and audio file names when exporting timelines to Pro Tools

but after a day of testing with pro tools, not much has changed from davinci 15. No metadata, audio files named after the video files, no way to relink to the original audio files. I don't know if the problem is the with the synchronised clips…probably the option to flatten synchronised clip as you can do with multicam clips would be helpfull to relink in other softwares the original audio clips some how.
But the possibility to export audio, with metadata, and the possibility to relink to the original audio files is vital when you edit a feature film or documentary. The sounds guy wants to know which is the microphone to choos and the name of the take, so they can see if they can replace with another take etc etc
So export for pro tools with metadata is still my one and only feature I dream for next Davinci. Even if I hope it will arrive sooner...And i promise I will pray to use fairlight as much as I can, but for sometimes we would still have to deal with pro tools.

For the new cut page I would like a storyboard interface where I can manipulate the clips on the timeline.

What I mean is add, delete and shuffle clips around so as to check the better rhythm. Doing this in timline icon view and have the timeline update instantly. This is a great and fast way to create and manipulate the timeline. Mostly for short projects mayb up to 10 minutes., Cinegy Extreme had this and so does cyberlink.

- The ability to identify clip colourspace when it's part of a flattened export. Currently, in a colour managed project, selecting an input colourspace for a clip ripples through all other instances of the same clip. This makes colour managing a flattened export from online impossible as changing one clip changes them all.

- Automatically tag input colourspaces. Currently, colourspace metadata isn't read and and automatically assigned with camera original media. This has to be manually selected and guessed at.

- Preserve original source names from EDLs. Currently, conforming from an EDL against a flattened sequence doesn't preserve reel name and source timecode. It's there in the edit index, but not the colour page.

- 'Colourtrace' options based on other criteria, and combinations of criteria (like multi-paste in baselight). Reel name only, or source TC only for example. Also colour tracing within the same timeline.

- Copying and pasting tracking data into node sizing. Node sizing adjustments on the panel too.

- Advance panel key mapping update. Where's 'copy node' for example?

I may have misunderstood your request, I'm not sure about source timecode but reel name can be obtained via General Options/Conform Options/Extract reel names from EDL comments. Requires the EDL to have this in the export of course.

- Caching/Transcoding/Exporting lets you still work in the program like FCPX. Right now the program just freezes.
- Folders for Smart filters (so you can make one for each keyframe that you need instead of using bins). So you could have a structure like this
Birds
- Eagles,
- Collibri
- Bee Eater
Mammals
- Sloth
- Whales
-- Blue Whales
-- Gray Whales
etc
This would make it loads easier to organize.

- Second monitor fullscreen support.
- Im not getting good results with the new stabilizer. It is very slow and it can rarely stabilize the videos I try with it. They can be perfectly stabilized with Mocha Pro though.
- Being able to export a still image.
- Being able to zoom into a 8k video quickly in the previewer at the Media page even though the timeline is 2k and 4k. Similar to Redcine X where you can just zoom in. Otherwise we have to use Redcine X to be sure that the videos are sharp.
- Being able to import markers from Redcine X.
- 100% working audio export to Pro Tools. For smaller projects Im happy to use Fusion, but for collaborate projects we have to use Pro Tools.
- Being able to run a previous version next to each other so Davinci 15 and 16 for example so you can beta test new features while working on the old one for your projects.
- Curves has so far been difficult to work for animation. I see there are a few improvements so hopefully they will make it easier. I like the interface After Effect has for curves where you have a deddicated curves window with every property displayed. I really do not like the keyframe interface in Davinci because you cannot see the actual curve in the interface.

I'm going to carry over my Swap Timeline between Source and Record from the Big Features request list from R16... LOL

But I must admit, I'm guilty. I didn't watch the entire video. I got about halfway through the cuts page and had to do work.

That one could bring real benefits, as nobody else but Avid has it ... the last frontier of the standard source/record/timeline model, until somebody comes up with a far better way to edit. For the record this is not [just] swapping timeline and source viewer, but a patching system between what's in the source viewer and what's in the timeline.

or perhaps we could do a $80 subscription per month so they can put another 40 programmers on davinci resolve that would be cool . Adobe charge about $80 AUD for this??? Room for thought. Great job grant team at blackmagic for davinci resolve 16. Needs some tweeking but u will get there as usaual.

Face detection must currently be analyzed before rendering, so if you copy the face detection node and paste it to the same person later in the timeline, it must first be analyzed before it can be rendered. If your entire timeline is made up of interviews, manually analyzing each clip can be onerous.

Also, tracking effects and windows don't track into handles. Even a near guess would be more helpful than an effect disappearing suddenly.

Fantastic work from BMD on the latest DaVinci Resolve 16 release. Many, many thanks.
Nonetheless, here's my (now much reduced!) wish list of features that haven't yet made the cut.
Fingers crossed for Resolve 17... or sooner. :)

[Copied from the Resolve 15 Big feature request list]

[WISH] Please add 'Multichannel' to the 'Monitor Set Format' options. Right now we have no way to feed more than 2 channels of 'non-surround' audio to downstream hardware eg A1(L1), A2(R1), A3(L2), A4(R2) etc. Selecting 'Multichannel' could reveal/enable an "Audio Channels" drop down menu so that the user can select the number of channels required, and below, be able to map those Stem <> Outputs as needed.

[Copied from the Resolve 16 Big feature request list]

[WISH][MEDIA PAGE] Add Mute and Solo controls to the Meters panel. Currently all Audio Channels are summed to Mono and can only be disabled/enabled/switched via the modal Clip Attributes window > Audio tab. This makes the process slow and unwieldy, interrupting flow.

[WISH][EDIT PAGE] A keyboard modifier function to toggle trim behaviour in currently selected mode ie to ‘ripple edit’ whilst in Selection Mode and ‘resize edit’ whilst in Trim Mode.

[WISH][EDIT PAGE] Ability to select clips in the Timeline via selection in the Edit Index.

[WISH][EDIT PAGE] In the Viewer panel, when displaying Audio, allow the user to mark an in/out range by ‘click and dragging’ directly in the ‘zoomed’ waveform display area in the Viewer window.

[WISH][EDIT PAGE] In the Viewer panel, when displaying Audio, allow to move/scroll the ‘zoomed’ waveform display area by dragging within that area (like using a ‘hand’ tool)

[WISH][MEDIA POOL] A consolidated clip view whereby selecting a folder in the ‘Bin List’ (at left) will show (at right) all clips contained in that bin and any sub bins at any level. Note: In this view we would see ‘Clips Only’ at right, not folders/subbins.

[WISH][MEDIA POOL] Default ‘Filter by’ selection should be ‘All Fields' (not File Name).

[WISH][MEDIA POOL] Default Smart Bin rule should be MediaPool Properties ‘All Fields’ (not File Name).

[WISH]][MEDIA POOL] Fewer restrictions on the (display) names for Bins. Currently only a limited alphanumeric character set is allowed for bin naming. Eg Among others, no colon (“:”) characters are allowed (which prevents me from including normally formatted timecode values in bin names).

[WISH][EDIT PAGE] Allow user mappable keyboard shortcuts for switching Timeline View Options (also Video View Options and Audio View Options).

[WISH][EDIT PAGE] In the Timeline panel, when using Stacked Timelines, allow users to ‘hide’ and ‘show’ timelines by a simple double click in the title bar area.

[WISH][EDIT PAGE] Show Timeline ‘Marker Names’ within the Edit Index ‘Name’ field … at present it is listed in the Notes field.

[WISH][EDIT PAGE] Duplicate clip usage range indicators in timeline

[WISH][EDIT PAGE] Extended clip usage data in bins. Currently we can see that a clip has been used ‘x’ number of times (list view) but there is no indication of where those clip usage instances occur, nor any means to quickly navigate to those instances. Making this info available/navigable via context menu, Clip Attributes or the Metadata would be very useful.

[WISH] Add a ‘Deflicker’ option for dealing with ‘field flicker/twitter’ issues. ResolveFX Revival “Deflicker” OFX is unable to detect and address these issues.

[WISH][EDIT MENU] Rename the ‘Duplicate Clip’ menu option to 'Duplicate' (because the function is not limited to Clips).

[WISH][DELIVER PAGE] Ability to define and apply Data Burn In options in the Deliver Page independently of the Project settings. Currently it’s limited to Project or None.

[WISH][DELIVER PAGE] Ability to Enable / Disable timeline tracks for output directly in the Deliver Page.

[And finally, there's a super annoying subtitle formatting bug that still lingering]

[BUG][EDIT PAGE] The Track Style > Line Spacing control in the Inspector panel for Subtitle Tracks just doesn't work at all, or doesn't work consistent to expectations, depending on font selection and / or platform. (Tested on Mac OS X and Windows 10.)

Cheers all, thanks for listening.
Andy
Let's have a return to the glory days, when press releases for new versions included text like "...with over 300 new features and improvements that professional editors and colorists have asked for."

The HSL and 3d kyer in Resolve it's not that good comparing to Assimlate scratch, autodesk flame and baselight, it's need to be more cleaner.

It would be interesting to add a tool in fusion for the management and creation of GOOGLE PIP Map obtained from video data (eg GPS or GoPro video telemetry) or that anyway manages the metadata and can create an overlay to superimpose the images automatically

- Fix 60fps playback performance to match 15.2.3 or better
- Lossless NVENC
- Pipe to FFMPEG

I don't want anything fancy. Just finally be able to use Resolve as NLE at decent speeds and the ability to get renders out lossless in a decent way.

NVENC lossless not in v16 I'm really disappointed. Looking at the code of OBS, FFMPEG and the NVENC wrapper, it doesn't seem more than a couple lines. That should not imply any disrespect, but it appears a rather small feature to do. Given the other work done in this area, I don't understand why this wasn't done in the same effort.

Global
  • Ability to create projects that aren't part of the database and just launch from DRP files.
  • Volume Slider/ Mute button in the page navigation area to reflect that it applies program wide. Also prevents the need to have to look for it on every page.
Media
  • Incorporate Media Express entirely
  • Simultaneous capture from an audio card
  • Support for using GPU output for monitor. Doesn't matte that it may not be color managed, some people don't necessarily need that for editing.
Edit
  • An option for stacking viewers vertically with and timeline to the side.
  • Changes to UI to allow for the removal of the toolbar
  • Combined zoom/scroll bar (that can expand to mini timeline)
  • Incorporate a lot of the niceties of the Cut page:
    • Source Tape
    • Clip view
    • Mini-timeline
    • Ability to disable the viewers. This could be a cool option for people that are monitoring on a separate display and don't necessarily need the playback controls for the main viewer because they use keyboard shortcuts.

Here's more of less what I'm thinking of
Image
The idea with the zoom/scroll bar is that it would work a lot of like the viewer timeline from the Fusion page but it could be toggled into the mini-timeline from the cut page.

Color
  • Ability to apply grades to source clips
  • Put the view options into the play area in the viewer title area so they take up additional screen real estate.
Fusion
  • Audio
  • An option for MediaOut nodes to toggle Color grades in the viewer. The viewer itself doesn't need this since it would only really apply to compositions that will output to the timeline.
  • Support for using multiple MediaOut nodes with each assigned to either a take or camera. This would allow someone in the Edit tap to switch cameras or takes with just a single Fusion composition.
  • 3D Modeler node possible just as an extension to the Shape3D node
  • Option in Displace3D to flatten the displacement and save it as static 3D object.
  • An option for stacking viewers vertically with and nodes to the side.
  • The zoom/scroll and playback controls should be along the bottom of the screen so that it's length doesn't get shorten when the viewer does.
Fairlight
  • MIDI support.
  • ASIO support.
  • Zoom/scroll bars

Ognjen Mihovilić wrote:I don’t see any new multicam features in 16 so we would like:

- multicam sequence/timeline creation
- match frame from multicam clip on timeline to viewer and than match frame to specific video clip
- ability to unflatten multicam after flattening
- “open in timeline” to place the playline on the same spot of the clip where your playline is on the working timeline
- multicam audio clip waveform improvement - a lot of crashes in 15 for us is due to multicam waveform cache to the point that we cant use waveform on multicam clips
- ability to choose which part of the clip is selected after splitting a selected clip

Oggy

2nd this

Also add better audio sync capabilities or just bring plural eyes compatibility.

I want them to appear in the audio track of the edit page. Add the volume adjustment curve function to the entire track. When I move the indicator to the track. Click the right mouse button to add or hide the volume adjustment curve on the entire track. On these curves, you can add or remove keys. Adjust the volume of each volume curve. He will be very useful when I need to quickly adjust the volume of multiple tracks on the edit page. Users can customize the thickness and color of the curve. There is no need to expand the tuning track. It can be adjusted quickly. I have been looking forward to this feature for 2 years but have not appeared.

The node of the coloring page cannot input the Chinese name. Waiting for a long time but never changing.

Regarding the FUSION text panel, you cannot see the names and font effects of Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese characters. All are displayed in English. Whether it's on the edit page or on the FUSION page. And the font panel cannot quickly preview the font. If you like the LUT option for color pages. You can use some specific buttons. Hold down the mouse pointer to quickly navigate through the fonts. I think that is great.

In addition, regarding the stabilization effect, I hope to be as good as PR. The current stabilization effect can only handle some very small vibrations. Handle big shocks. The distortion of the image will be very serious. But in PR, almost any type of image jitter is well handled. And there is almost no distortion.

I would welcome the opportunity to unlock the viewers panel and move to a second display unit and resize to give better visuals. Similar to how the viewer on Fairlight can be unlocked, moved and resized.
