Override snapping tool

I would welcome the option to override the snapping tool ... like keeping Shift pressed while moving clips around not to get the snap activated and upon release to work normal.
I know there is the N key to disable it .. but then you have to press it again ... might look like a small thing but it`s annoying to do.
I currently work from a Razer Tartarus, and all the binds i need are on that device, i very rarely touch the actual keyboard. As i already have Shift / Alt / Ctrl bind as modifiers .. it makes sense to have something like that programmed to modify the behavior of the Snapping, in this case to disable it upon the key release.

You can do this now by holding down N.

Holding down N does not work. It just toggle on and of the snapping ultra fast.
Also its still a hassle to push the button all the time when it works good in premiere.

I've seen (and reported) that bug myself.
It's
supposed to work, it just doesn't yet.

If you have snapping off.
While moving the clip, push the N (once) and snapping is on. When you releasing clip, snapping is still off.
But snapping with Shift would be better.

Ah will try this tomorrow. But davinci needs to stop snapping so hard on the playhead anyway. This should be high priority.

I have the same Issue here. It´s really anoying. Has it been fixed yet?
It´s a small thing... but I found out that this is the main reason that keeps me from editing in Resolve and still stick with Premiere. It just feels uncomfortable and you have to use it frequently. Especially when you have short clips... just a view frames duration... an option where you can set the strength of snapping would be very helpful.

Yes, they need to include it, because it is simple, but very effective thing in order to cut fast.

A snapping strength control would be a welcome addition, but I
vastly prefer the aggressive snapping in Resolve to the weak snapping in Premiere. I'd rather have high confidence snapping with less mouse control than low confidence snapping with more mouse control.
In Premiere I constantly finding myself double-checking to make sure the snap was accurate. I almost never have to do this in Resolve.

+1 for an key to override snapping like shift
+1 for adjustable snapping sensitivity
It is possible to override grouping/linked selection by pressing alt while editing, so it would be consequent and a very helpful detail to have the same possibility for snapping. I agree that this small difference to always press the N key is annoying and it sums up very fast to unnecessarily take up time and efficiency.

If you hit N after you grab a clip, Snapping will be toggled until you release the clip, then automatically toggle back again.
(I had it wrong earlier. You hit N, not hold it.)

the whole point of a modifier key is that you know how it responds without doubt.
hold down snap key - is should snap
right now, its a variable. depending on the state of the current state.
so many times i need to either look or double press while trying to snap. this sucks.
we need a modifer key like CMD to enable snap.
like avid and premiere do.

Yep, I second this.
Is it feasible for Blackmagic to let the user decide how they want the snapping button (N) behave?

please add this feature where I can just hold shift pressed! So know for sure.
I waste so much time having to constantly look and check the magnet symbol
Holding shift I would know for sure!

+1 !!
Hold shift for snap ! Like a lot of other softwares (not only editing software, it's a common behavior)

We're fully aware of it and we want to keep it and add and optional way to do so. Something that will not conflict with the N. So, don't worry, you are safe.

I agree with this, I've had countless times where despite using n as a shortcut key, the clips still seem to snap, which is frustrating when I'm trying to get two clips to sync up for either a gaming video or reaction video.

I find the "n" key for snap to be much better than having to hold down the shift key for the entire operation.

2 months on Resolve after 10 years of Premiere and 10 years before that on Avid
I will get use to every aspect of the software, no problem.
But I need Snap to be a toggle on pressing shift.
you keep Shift pressed = it snaps
you release shift = moving playhead and clips freely

May I ask are we any further along with this issue? I find it frustrating that the N toggle works fine on a standalone audio clip, but not on a video / audio clip. Even with N (magnet) deselected, the video/audio clip can only move between the keyframes of the timeline. However, the audio clips slide freely. I'm trying to produce a video for a local choir and I just cannot line up one of the camera video I shot, with the other for this reason. Is there something I'm missing on this maybe? Cheers - Graham. (Davinci Resolve Free - 18.6.3 Build 19)

This is my biggest hangup with resolve. I would have fully switched by now if this wasn't an issue. The snapping range is too large, too sensitive. I want to either override it or to be able to adjust the range.

+1 for me too.
I would love an option here for how the snapping button behaves. Give us the ability to press N to enable snapping while the button is held, or command/shift/option etc. A modifier key that enables or disables snapping when held, doing the inverse of what setting the snapping button is set to.
Also +1 for a sensitivity slider for magnetic snapping tolerance. Maybe I want it to behave more subtlely vs other methods.
