Tracks: Solo Button

I wished there was a "solo" button as you can find in any DAW software to just show/play the solo-selected track (or two or three.... solo-selected tracks).

This is way faster than disabling single tracks one by one.

I don't understand. Can you clarify?

Based on the description, a UI implementation of Solo Exclusive mode.

There *is* a solo button on audio tracks ("s", believe it or not).

If you want to solo a video track, option-click the on/off icon in the track header.

I don't know. Seems like the shortcut is sufficient. Maybe he just doesn't know about it.

Depends on which page is in use, as the Edit page's option of Alt-clicking on the solo button is not functional on the Fairlight page.

Oh yeah. That would be helpful.

I wonder. I got the impression the OP was unfamiliar with *any* of the solo options, on any page.

I was thinking about this today and almost wrote a FR.

I honestly don't see much of a difference between Mute and Solo in the current implementation.
Since they can't be activated on multiple tracks, M and S have the same basic function, and the only difference is the order of operation to accomplish the same thing.

In this situation, the S button is redondant (imo). We can solo a track with an Alt+left click on Mute (it mutes everything except one track). Shift+left click on Mute will mute or unmute all tracks.

In my opinion, [S]olo should mean... solo, by default. And extra steps should be required to make it less "solo".

My idea:

- [S] should do what it means: solo a track. No other track can be heard.
- If [S] is clicked for a track when another track has the solo activated, it should deactivate it on the previous track.
- If we want to "solo" two or more tracks, using Ctrl+left click should suffice (if ctrl is not used, only one solo can be activated at once).
- If [M] (or [S]) is activated when the "opposite" is already activated, it should automatically toggle between the two until one of them is manually deactivated. It makes no sense (especially visually) to solo a mute track, and vice versa.

If the solo button didn't exist, it wouldn't make a difference imo.

One crazy idea would to remove the S button, and use the space for something more useful?
Like an audio effect "Mute" button for the whole track (or audio effects applied on the audio clips of the track themselves)

Mute and Solo do work on multiple tracks. It is normal industry practice in audio that Soloed tracks play together, not switch between each other. You will find this in any DAW and hardware console. The only function that does not appear to be available is Solo In Place. Clicking on the S or M buttons in the track headers and mixer is working as it should in both the Edit and Fairlight pages here.

An example would be when mixing. You can isolate a track or tracks to check something like EQ or Compression. If you have the Solo In Place function, you can just listen to a track or tracks without affecting what is going to the Mix Bus. Mutes will do just that, mute the track and prevent it going to the Mix Bus. Mutes are usually automatable as well.

Fairlight Consoles support the more advanced Solo modes - configured in the Console/Desktop Audio Editor panel's Setup megamode > Solo Options.

(1) SIP: mutes channels not in Solo so that they no longer feed the bus outputs.

(2) PFL: listens to the pre-fade channel signal and feeds are routed to the dedicated solo bus.

(3) AFL: listens to the post-fade channel signal and feeds are routed to the dedicated solo bus.

(4) Solo Interlock: solo exclusive or additive.

(5) Solo Follow: solo is linked to track selection.

My bad on the description of SIP. It's a long time (20 years) since I used an analogue console which had Solo, PFL, and AFL. :)

Looks like you are in Flexi mode. Only Fixed Bussing mode exposes the additional Solo modes.
