Feature needed for cloud projects

PostTue May 24, 2022 7:01 am

Wanted to test the collaboration feature which is very interesting and will be very useful. However it would be great if there was a feature in the render page 'Render proxy files for timeline'. As a project typically uses only a small percentage of the original material in the timeline, you only really want to be able to send the timeline clips or a selection thereof, to a collaborator. There may be a number of reasons why you wouldn't want to send anything more than the relevant material to a collaborator.

Also using dropbox is not a cool idea, it is notoriously slow. Far better would be a dedicated temporary FTP solution to transfer between specific collaborators in much the same way as WeTransfer can be used. I would then upload to the FTP which then informs the collaborator who then would download the package which then unpacks into the original files and directory structure.

You can do that with the "Media Management" feature available under the File menu in Resolve.

Nice! Unfortunately DR 18.3 just hangs when you try to do anything there :(

It sort of works but it's a very mickey kind of workaround. 101gb reduces to 6gb instead of 1gb using the new proxy generator. I think BM need to simplify and smoothen this workflow if the cloud concept is going to be useful.

Workflow;

media manager
- copy clips from timeline to folder

proxy generator
- create proxy files from folder

wetransfer
- upload folder to collaborator

Unfortunately this only works for video, audio files are not processed and have to be copied into the folder manually and its all in all a very time consuming process.

Isn't that just a matter of setting the correct video codec settings? Make sure to select the Transcode tab, not Copy. Anyway, yes, there is certainly room for substantial improvement.

Try LucidLink? Just testing BM cloud collaboration with LL and it all seems good so far.
