How to uninstall - Resolve not seen on PC?

PostTue Jun 21, 2022 1:00 pm

I just got a new PC (running Win 11) and installed the latest Beta 4 Studio version and all seemed to install ok until I went to run it.
I've done lots of installs of Resolve over the years but for some reason, it didn't add a desktop shortcut like it usually does but more weirdly, there was no sign in 'Start> All Apps' of Resolve either?
I had to go into C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve to start the program from there.

In 'Start> All Apps' and in the add/remove progs option, all I see is Black Magic Control Panels with no sign of Resolve itself but oddly these are installed in 'C:\Program Files (Program Files x86)\Blackmagic Design' and not just 'C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve' (not in x86) where I do see Resolve.

Resolve isn't running great so want to try an earlier version but the PC now cannot find Resolve in the uninstall menu nor any reference to uninstall anywhere else?
How can I uninstall Resolve from my PC now?

I had the same problem on my Windows 10 computer.
I also could not uninstall Resolve through the control panel, nor did I find an uninstaller.

I manually lowered the Resolve version to 17 in the registry and was then able to install Resolve 17.4.6 over it again. This is definitely not the best way and I would not recommend it, but it worked for me. :?

If you run Resolve as Administrator you will get the Desktop icon.
Yes, some parts of Resolve install in the x86 folder.
The correct place to uninstall Resolve is Control Panel/Programs and Features. Its' appearance there may also be affected by not running as administrator. As I always do I have not had problems with either the Desktop icon or uninstall. Deleting folders elsewhere will cause problems.

Thank you for your reply.
It does seem to be a problem with admin rights. When I log into an admin account Davinci Resolve is visible in the control panel, it is missing for normal users.
The other Blackmagic applications (Fusion for example) are visible in the control panel as a normal user.

As the PC is new, I did a full reset and another install using my Admin account which seems to have fixed things. Thanks for the info.

I just gave myself all the rights and never use different "Run as administrator" It's just a useless function and I don't know what it's for. A normal user definitely does not need it. And in addition if you install some program without "Run as administrator" not all files can be installed or there can be glitches like yours.

Well maybe you should learn what it's for.

I understand that, security. Blah blah blah blah. I left only the main folders protected, such as the Windows folder, Program Files, and others. Other than that, I gave full access. So there shouldn't be a problem. And they never have been, in all the years of using Windows.
