system crash DR 18.4

PostThu Jun 16, 2022 6:30 am

Hi

Help urgently needed. How can I start DR without it automatically loading the last project?

Have experimented using both cloud project and local. Backed up cloud project to local disk and then imoported this to local db. When starting DR gets stuck on 'refreshing stills'

Any suggestions gratefully received

Hi Thom

From Resolve's preferences, under User > UI Settings, you can uncheck the "Reload last working project when logging in".

The Logs section in the FAQs show how to create a diagnostic archive outside of the application's Help menu. It may be worth creating one and posting a shared link to it.

Thanks

Hi

Trouble is that the program never gets that far. Is there a registry or .cgf setting I can set manually to prevent it from loading latest project?

This is as far as I get after having uninstalled DR and reinstalled everything. Seems there are settings or values stored somewhere which remain even after a re-install

Problem solved thanks to Mike at BM in London :)

Uninstall doesnt remove the DR folders under users/appdata which keep preferences etc. I'm sure that there is a simpler way to do this but for now we're up and running again

here is a copy of Mikes instructions, hope it helps

If you are not able to access the project manager, you will need to create a backup of your default database manually, please create a copy of the database that can be found at the following file path.

C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Resolve Disk Database

Please be advised that the folder 'AppData' is hidden by default.

As such, to be able to locate this you may need to select View > Options > Change folder and search options. Select the View tab and, in Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives and OK.

If you have used any other disk databases, these would need to be backed up from the location where you originally saved them to.

If you are unsure where you have created these databases to, you should be able to right-click on the database in the project manager and select 'Open file location' in order to locate them on the system.

Next, uninstall Resolve from the system using the uninstall application function in the Control Panel of the system.

You may also wish to uninstall the Resolve panels application from the system in the same way.

Once this has been uninstalled, you would then need to remove the program files from the system.

To remove all program files from the system, you would need to go to the following file paths and delete the folder 'DaVinci Resolve’.

C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Preferences

If you do not wish to remove these folders from the system, as an alternative, you should be able to rename the folder to a name such as 'DaVinci Resolve.old' for example.

Once these steps have been completed, you would then need to reinstall Resolve.

Once Resolve has been reinstalled, you should then be able to reconnect to your backed up database that we created at the beginning of the process by going to "Connect Database" at the top of the Databases list and follow the on-screen instructions.
