Custom export resolution settings ignored

PostMon May 16, 2022 11:29 pm

I believe this is a regression from beta1.

I have a timeline that's 1080x1920 (vertical) but it seems no matter what resolution settings I choose in any export preset I've tested, the resulting file is always 3840*2160 (horizontal). Fortunately my media is not distorted and is just pillar boxed, so I can crop and export using Compressor, but this is super weird.

I'm quite sure this is a regression as I have 9x16 timelines in the same database that I exported previously without problem but now those same timelines are rendering 3840x2160 instead of 1080x1920.

I'm tickling this post, as it's still happening in Resolve 18 beta 5. I have a project 1215x2160 (9/16 vertical). In Timeline Settings, the timeline resolution is set to that, and output resolution is set to "use timeline settings" and those numbers are showing there too. In the Deliver page, the resolution is set to Custom and is also 1215 x 2160. As in beta 1, the export is full UHD 3840x2160, and the content is pillar boxed.

Interesting. Would you mind posting screenshots of your timeline and export settings? Thank you.

Thanks for that. My settings were no different other than that I was exporting ProRes, but I tried H264 like you and I'm still getting the 16:9 video file with pillar boxes. It must be a Mac thing.

Incidentally for those who care, this is what I see when it renders — the render preview shows a 9:16 window, however it squishes the 16:9+pillar boxes into a 9:16 space.

Meaning, this is what I see while it renders:

While rendering 9:16 I see a 16:9+pillar boxes image squeezed into 9:16 space

But this is the actual output:

When setting the Timeline setting, DO NOT use the Project Setting.
Uncheck the "Use Project Settings" and set the timeline aspect now that the settings are available and are not greyed out.
