17: Shortcut Troubles

PostTue Nov 10, 2020 1:21 pm

The 'best' way to set up the shortcuts is for the main keyboard + and - (technically the = and -) to zoom the timeline without modifiers.

Timecode entry is done from the Numpad + and -.

This no longer works in 17. I can change the main shortcuts, but they don't actually zoom.

Numpad shortcuts still work fine.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

So it seems that = may now be 'required' for absolute timecode entry.

I find that unworkable.

Absolute timecode entry should not require any preceding clicks or shortcuts. That's extra work.

Zooming the timeline with a shortcut should not require a modifier key. That's extra work.

Efficiency is what's needed and wanted here.

Typing numbers on the Numpad should move the playhead.

Typing = or - on the Main keys should Zoom the timeline.

These are the norms, the expectation, the most efficient design.

Agreed with Jim
There are standard keys that we all learned that should remain standards - or preference selectable, at the very least.
This "improvement" set us back quite a bit here.
