Meaning of High L4.2 in Media page Metadata

PostFri Nov 20, 2020 11:50 pm

Here's something I've never seen before. If I open the metadata on a clip in the Media page before it's brought into Resolve I see H.264 High L4.2. All clips from my Canon G40 now have this addition. If I open the Metadata on an imported clip it merely says H.264. What does High L4.2 mean?

My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Thanks Jim. So does it mean that Resolve is not interpreting it properly when it only shows H.264 in the Metadata after the file is imported?

This gets interesting. If I look at a rendered file in the Media page, an HD render is Main L4.2, a UHD one is Main L5.2. Another UHD one is Main L5.1 and another HD one is Main L5.0.
This looks to be a complicated subject. :)

It all depends on the generating program and its settings. Only the information got more detailed in 17.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
