Voice over incredibly broken

Hey everyone first time posting.

I did a simple test recording to show how broken my voice over is on DaVinci resolve. All my recordings are incredibly distorted and I have no idea why.

To compare I tested the same setup on Audacity and its sounds perfect.

I'm using a Audiant evo 4 as my recording device.

It also sounds exactly the same during playback. This has been driving me nuts! Any help would be so awesome. Thank you!

That's not distortion, it is sampling error. Is the Evo 4 set to 48k, and are all your frame rates for the project correct? Is the sample rate in Windows Sound settings also set to 48k?

I can confirm this bug. It makes voiceovers in Resolve 17 currently unusable. Project sample rate is set to 48000, the audio card is set to: 2X 24Bit 48000. Reaper recorded crystal clear audio from the same interface, while Resolve failed.

In my case crackling and popping appears 20% of the time. It degrades over time and comes back right after. Tested using multiple audio cards. Please fix it folks.

Thats good to know that it's a sampling rate error.

Yes my audient evo is set to 48k and windows is set to 48k as well. I'll also note that I was unable to record in 44k and when I set it to 48k I was able to record but it sounded all messed up.

I'm going to check the frame rate that's something I'm unsure of.

I see some of you guys have been having issues as well should I roll back to version 16 do you guys know if it's been working?

Having just done some testing with a Behringer 1204 USB Mixer with an AKG D202 mic, the audio records and plays back without any artifacts. I have found some other problems which I will investigate further.

I can confirm this. I've had exactly the same issue the original poster had. If I uninstall and reinstall resolve studio 17, the problem corrects itself temporarily but then returns. I've double checked everything, and everything is correct. This was working perfectly in version 16 then in 17 this bug has appeared. I'm on windows personally.

I think we have a fix in the works for this

I also experience popping when recording VO or intruments through fairlight. It's intermittent and no other DAW on my computer has this problem. I have a 12-core processor, fast GPU, and a decent focusrite interface. It would be a big help to me if this issue could be solved. I also had it on DR 16 but was able to make it go away (forgot how).

The problem still occurs in the latest beta. I have to use reaper now to record audio. Didn't see a mention in changelogs, so I guess it's not fixed.

Can you also capture the logs from your system and post here.
Also, as a test, can you see if you have a decklink device in use. If it is, try disconnecting and check if that fixes the issue.

I do not have a declink. Can you explain which logs you are interested in? There are all kinds of logs listed in the Windows 10 event viewer.

In the DaVinci Resolve click on the help menu and select create diagnostic log to desktop.

Does sharing the log file online expose me to any security risks? I can see there is a lot of information about my computer in there. Can I email it to somebody?

I hope so. I have exactly the same problem. With Audient Evo and recording corruption/frequesncy mis match. It happens occasionally (the worst part).

Hope this gets pushed out asap.

Premiere, iZotope, Audition can all record perfectly with the same settings.


Reinstalled Resolve, after clearing all data and prefs
As Noted earlier in this thread, fixed issue for an hour, then it reverted to borked.

What is your Audio Block size set to?

It was set to Auto.

Just monitoring room tone you could hear weird digital 'chatter'.

So:

Set Resolve and Audient AISO buffer size 512.

Recorded nothing.

Toggle 'Auto 'back on

began working again.

Just recorded a 10 min v/o straight to a track in Fairlight with no artifacts at all.
Interface - Behringer 1204 USB mixer.
Audio Buffer in Resolve set to 256.
Project has Fixed Bus routing.

Trying it with Flexi-bus is a different story. Whatever routing I try, the audio will not go to any selected tracks. So that may be where the problem lies.

What a hot mess.

Fixed Bus does NOT stop audio corruption on recordings.

Unlike you, I can set the buffer in Resolve to any value including Auto and it happily records in Fixed Bus mode. It does make finding the source of the problem difficult. Are you absolutely sure that all your frame rates in the Project settings match? Also, if recording to picture, is the video running at a stable framerate?

Unfortunately recording into Resolve even prior to Fairlight has and is still a long-standing issue, with several reports to BMD support and after more than 3 years it's still not fixed. Even FCPX "just works" while Resolve still suffers along...

Save yourself a major headache and do all your recording in an external editor of your choice, then import into Resolve and only expect to make minor/basic adjustments and effects. Don't waste your time trying to fix Resovle's issues for them; that's their job and so far they've not addressed it.

I often have to do bits of quick ADR and VOs , and wanted escape the tyranny of ADOBE.

When I did more 3D animation, I spent years hammering away a Newtek about their Lightroom app. To no avail.

I just completed a 40 video project in Premiere, with a project file that was more corruptible than a certain president...

I was getting ready to do some voiceover work in 17 when I saw this. I was going to upgrade to the Studio version tonight... does that make any difference (was your negative experience with the Studio or the free version)? Not sure to get this package if there are sound issues...

Just wanted to chime in that recording here in 17b6 works as expected and is clean. Tried with with both a Roland Rubix24 and a Sound Devices MixPre6ii (USB mode). Timeline at 29.97, 48kHz.

I'm using Studio Version.

tried again with:
empty project
Fixed BUS
512 Sample Buffer
48khz 24 Bit IN/OUT


worked

EDIT: If I copy a sequence from another project into the working Timeline - and record ADR the distortion returns.

All the pasted content is conformed to the same frame rate as the 'working project'

Go figure.
