The new options to zoom and pan the timeline with the scroll wheel and modifiers are very welcome. But the modifier-action mapping is a not consistent with similar mappings in various other places in DR. While some of them are very old an better left untouched, I would very much appreciate if the modifiers could be streamlined (suggestion see below). Otherwise it is a hit and miss to use the right modifier depending where you are in DR.
Here is a (probably not comprehensive) overview what the scroll wheel actually does with each modifier (I only checked on macOS):
without modifier:
vertical scroll (Edit & Fairlight Timeline, Color page Node panel and all panels when they have a scroll bar)
zoom (Color page viewer)
horizontal scroll (Color page Clips)
nothing (Color page and Cut page Timeline)
shift:
vertical zoom (Edit & Fairlight Timeline)
horizontal scroll (Fairlight Mixer, Color page Nodes)
opt:
horizontal zoom (Edit & Fairlight & Color Page Timeline:)
zoom (Color page Nodes)
cmd:
horizontal scroll (Edit & Fairlight & Color Timeline)
vertical scroll (Color page viewer, Color page timeline)
scrub (Cut page)
cmd-opt:
waveform zoom (Fairlight)
fast horizontal scrol (Edit timeline)
shift-ctr:
fast vertical scroll (Edit timeline)
shift-cmd
horizontal scroll (Color page viewer)
I would suggest:
without: vertical acroll
shift for horizontal scroll (I think this is the macOS standard for windows with horizontal scroll bar)
opt for zoom (everything or vertical zoom only if applicable)
opt-shift for horizontal zoom (combining the previous suggestions)
To avoid upsetting every colorist on planet earth we can leave scroll without modifier for the Color page viewer's zoom
